Do you think employers should go to jail for employing illegals?

Answer:
Yes, and landlords that knowingly rent to illegals as well. Take away the benefits and we won't have to deport any illegals. They'll leave on their own.
Yes I do
If they did it knowingly and intentionally yes.
Yes, but keep in mind that right now all they are going to say is, the ID and SS card looked good.
Yes.. Key word being ILLEGAL
That would be hard to do because most companies are not tied to a person but are an entity of their own BUT YOU CAN revoke the business license after habitual offenses and nail them with fines that sting so bad it will make cheap labor no longer profitable.
It is more complex than that. Most companies are run by people who dont handle the day to day hiring. There are many of them and you wouldnt be able to jail them all, or we wouldnt have any compnaies left for americans to work for.

That person who said jail landlords too, now that is crap. Do you really want to see illegal immigrants and their BABIES on the side of your road in a box?

There really is no quick fix for this. Jailing employers will cause more grief than not to American employed by them, who will suffer in the long run.
A fence wont keep them at bay if a river and a desert dont.
Deportation is really laughable. Two weeks later they will be back, and then we have only done one thing, wasted our time and resourses.
~No quick fix~
Well as Michelle B stated above they are mostly corporations so they are "somewhat" exempt from going to jail....But we could hold the CEO accountable by enacting a law that states that person will be subject to the penalties directly. The problem is that this would require a congress representing the public, which we obviously don't have or this amnesty bill would not ever have been considered.
Yes.if the fine doesn't "hurt" them then we have to find something that does.
Yes
No, but they should suffer high enough fines that they will actually stop.

No more of this "cost of doing business" tax write off crap either. I want one illegal immigrant knowingly employed to be able to make Wal-Mart unprofitable for a quarter. Enforce it, then illegal immigration would stop naturally.
I do,It is a criminal offense to hire them,I know that in larger companys the CEO'S do not actually hire the illegals, but the buck should stop with them,Jail the CEO'S as well as the middle management people who hire them and I am sure they will get the message real quick.
They can afford to pay fines but jail time is real time.
Our current immigration law states clearly that any employer who hires illegals will be heavily fined and can serve time in jail.

If the justice department (Gonzales) would actually enforce the existing law then many illegals would go home when they could not find jobs.
Yes, that is the only way we are ever going to get a hold on illegals coming to our country. We need to crack down at the top. If the businesses are too afraid to hire an illegal, chances are they'll stop crossing over.
First you would have to make it much harder to forge the documents needed to fool potential employers.

Then make it a criminal offense with mandatory prison sentences for first time offenders.
Yeah I think they should go to jail, and lose their business.
