Citizenship under 18?
1)can I apply for citizenship without my parents applying for theirs?
2)do i lose my canadian citizenship, or since i was born there will i always have it?
Answer:
You can become an US citizen. Since 18 means you are an independant adult and can make your own decisions you probably have to wait. However, at this point, are you sure you are not happy with you residency status? And yes I believe you would give up your Canadian citizenship when becoming an US citizen. By birth you will always be Canadian but you will have to give up a lot of rights Canadians are entitled to. Have you checked into the price of Health Care in this country? You might want to wait until you are 18 and during that time find out what your rights as an American Citizen will give you (as far as I know, you can vote as a citizen and serve on juries). Citizens not born here cannot become president. So since that employment opportunity would not be a possibility, why not keep your status here and don't give up what your country offers its citizens for free. Medical care!! Plus such a beautiful country. They take care of their senior citizens. You can't have the best of the two worlds. So some things that may not seem imporant to you now, you may regret losing later. Cause you CANNOT change your mind once you become a citizen. It is important you find out all of this before making a hasty decision. It's not like a divorce, except you lose a lot of your rights in marriage and a lot sometimes in divorce. But their are a lot of legal implications once you renounce your citizenship. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Your parents are probably right in taking everything into consideration. So keep in mind you will always be Canadian by birth, but if you make the choice to be citizen of another country then you will have to do with the laws and Social Security system for the elderly, not such great medical care for the retired under the medicare system. And very expensive medical care when you have to pay for it yourself. Why do you think those that have saved for retirement all there lives, move abroad, to Mexico and Canada? And these are born American Citizens. Do your homework before you make the decision OK?
not sure but number one but you'll always be a canadian citizen
Yes u could apply if u are 18 or older also no u would not lose your canadian citizenship cause u were born there.
