How have immigrants helped the United States economically?
Answer:
The history of the US and the strength of the economy is based on the labor of immigrants. This country was created by immigrants.
Many immigrants open businesses that fill gaps in the local markets. Irish, German, Italian and oher european immigrants enabled the US to make the transition from an agricultural to an industrial society.
Illegal aliens don't help. They are a drain on the economy. Even economists say they are bad for America.
97% are taking jobs away from Americans. Only 3% work in farming. (source: Pew Hispanic Center)
They send $60 billion out of the country yearly.
They increase crime (Source: Department of Justice)
They cost California over $10 billion a year (Study)
Prisoner illegal aliens cost California over $700 million a year (State of California)
They will cost $500 billion if the guest worker bill is passed. (Source: Heritage Foundation and National Academy of Sciences ).
they do work that Americans won't do and they do it for lower wages.

Who Gives a Sh.it!!!!!!!
In almost every case, the help came in the form of cheap labor. When the Germans, Irish and even the Italians first started coming to America in the early 1800's, they ended up with the cheap jobs...factories, mills, etc.
When the Chinese first came, they played a major part in the labor that built the railroads. When the Cubans first came to America in the early 1960's, they provided the cheap labor on most of the South Florida construction boom.
I could give you many more examples like this. Even today, a lot more of immigrant labor is being used for products you buy and use every day than you know. Immigrant labor working farms picking crops...working chicken farms prepping chickens...doing the type of jobs that even our U.S. high school drop-outs feel they are above performing.
Ask any economic historian and s/he will tell you that the U.S. economy has always boomed after a period of substantial immigration. Most people are inert and stay at home. It takes an especially motivated and energetic person to choose to take the much harder path of moving to another country.
Moreover, many immigrants start their own retail businesses because they lack the local connections to get hired into decent local jobs. They wind up becoming prosperous, paying taxes and hiring local Americans.
At the same time, it would be foolish to just open the doors to a helter skelter "come on over whenever you like" policy.
Our policy is not so bad now. We have legally limited immigration. I am not addressing illegal immigration.
That is another matter entirely.
They don't help the economy! They are draining our resources. Social Services are killing us WORKING Americans thanks to illegal immigrants sitting on their a$$e$ popping out babies so they can get higher amounts of welfare and food stamps and etc... By the way, don't tell me they are not collecting. They easily get fake s.s. cards. Things are going to get much worse before they get better. We have to stand up and do something before they destroy our country and make it as bad as Mexico. God bless the U.S.A. and God bless our troops!
i cannot say much about the illegal immigrants. but the legal immigrants have to undergo rigorous scrutiny by the INS before they can even enter the country. they are only given the jobs for which there's no eligible American available. and they contribute largely to the exchequer and the Social Security and Medicare funds. these people also rarely have criminal history and hence do not bring any ill effects to the society at large.
so it's fair to say that they definitely help in nation building and garnering peace.
hey he said immigrants not illegal aliens!! This country would be nothing without immigrants. Basically 95% of us come from a family that immigrated here so economically immigrants made this country what it is today!!
With their work and dedication.
