If our government refuses to enforce some laws, should Americans respect any law?

Immigration laws are not being enforced by our Federal Government. Penalties for fraudulent ID's are not being enforced. Employers hiring illegals are not being fined as the law directs. The IRS is not seizing assets and forcing illegals to pay federal income taxes as they do to citizens. A couple of days ago, on CSpan, Rice said they are not enforcing the law that deny Visas to countries who will not take back their illegals. Is this causing American citizens to not respect the laws of our country?

Answer:
Yes, I believe it is causing Americans to look at the unbalanced system that we have and question it and reject it. It's a double standard unfortunately and the IRS and the government can do whatever they want to do, whether you like it or not. We live here, so we don't follow the laws, we get punished. Your an immigrant, your better off. We pay federal income taxes and they aren't. Our government is really screwed up.
yes
Yes, failure to enforce laws breeds disprespect for laws. It is a laziness that is irresponsible.
Yes and I agree send them packing.
You SHOULD respect the law, but i hate politics and really ahve no say in it.
**** the law, **** Rice and **** Bush. People are the law. Wake up America. People Power can overthrow our Government.
99% of the time laws against speeding are not enforced.
99% of the time you can get away with shoplifting, too.
cheating on your taxes...
downloading software you didn't buy (or music)
there are lots of unenforced laws.
lots of people get away with child abuse, too.
enforcement is expensive and labor intensive.
help us figure out how to fully enforce all laws.
it would be nice.
This non-Enforcement Makes a joke of our entire system.
i could go on and on but ill just say NO! they don't enforce laws nor do the listen to us when making them.
Great question.

It is really scary when people decide to let the law slide when it is a politcal hot button. The law should be the law, no exceptions to ANYONE.
I know its tough to live this way and its frustrating seeing how we taxpayers are getting raped, but the illegals na dby our own gov't. But we need to move on and not lower ourselves, and pray for the best. Its always easier to do wrong than it is to do good. But sooner or later something is going to give??????
this gripes my butt to no end. I like it when you bring these points up and they call you racist. What the hell does it have to do with race. The Americans do have have to abide or we go to jail. The reason our govt. is not enforcing the laws is because these people are not effecting their lives. Let them lose a job or price their healthcare out of their reach, let their familys do without then you will see something done.
When the elected ones obey the law, then the citizen will be more inclined to. Its not a National Park anymore, it is a US Oil Reserve, drill as you want. Oil Wells 50miles offshore? not if theres a field found off the coast. Laws change to suit the politicians in power, I do not know which law is real or unreal anymore.
absolutely. laws that inconvenience me are now totally ignored.i use my own conscience and judgement to do what is right for me.affirmative action is a criminal policy and as a result i cannot be expected to comply blindly with other laws.
Cost-containment through many avenues of analysis of the situation you mentioned above comes to mind the most, in regards to answering your post.

I do not feel that one should consider themselves wise if to ignore the law based on lack of the understanding of it. I also feel maybe this is where "ignorance to the law is no excuse" rule comes into play.

And so sometimes, as judges do, and as Condeleeza Rice seems to be doing, by using the rule of thumb by way of better "judgement" of different situations, it may be the wisest way to understanding, and also as to the answering, of both your statements of expression of displeasure in the above matters, and also the answer as to anyones possible curiosity as to whether breaking the law based on the decisions of enforcing others is a good idea.

Using good judgement.
5 million of our older Americans have not signed up yet for their
Medicare, Part D, drug plan------they are old and confused. We are NOT going to grant them an extension.
However, 12 million illegal aliens are in our country and we are going to allow them to stay, protest, procreate, receive support monies, attend schools, avoid paying income taxes, have our teachers take 300 hours of ESL(English as a Second Language) training at our expense, etc.

WE MUST REALLY DISLIKE OUR OLD PEOPLE.....OR WE MUST REALLY LOVE TACOS!!!

If it ticks you off, pass it on!!
I see what you are saying. It seems like no matter what they do, they get away with it but with us, we are always punished when we commit a crime. That's not right.
