I'm an american citizen and my wife is japanese. how long can she stay in the us without a visa?

we just sent off the i-130 paper work and we are waiting for the visa to come back.

Answer:
she will be granted a conditional permanent resident status. But you will have to change that status before 2 years of your anniversary.
Now, is your wife in Japan or is she in US?
If she is in Japan, she will have to stay in Japan until her visa comes back.
If she is in US now, I think she can apply for an extention thru USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration service)
read the source that I provide below.
she should be fine as long as her visa is pending
how come she has no visa?? didn't she arrive with one already?? you must have put some visa in the I-130 application
oh dear,i really dont know
Boy, some people are giving you some awful answers. I would contact the Japanese embassy or the US embassy and ask some questions. My son's fiance is from Japan but she is here on a student visa.Good luck. Maybe google has some info.
If she is legally your wife, I believe she's allowed to stay permanently as a citizen. My brother married a woman in Japan when he was in the Navy several years ago. When he was discharged, she came to the U.S. and lived with him for about 4 years, until they divorced, and she chose to move back to Japan.
