Should we give automatic citizenship to people that agree to join our military?
Answer:
I think the plan should apply to all residents of the US; you must serve in the military or no citizenship. Period.
Why don't we send all criminals over seas. Child Molesters, rapist, murderers. Get rid of all the idiot people who are in the jails.
yes, AFTER and ONLY AFTER they serve thier FULL term.
which is close to the same amount of time to do it the INS
way...
Assuming a non-citizen voluntarily enlisted, I think that granting them citizenship after a 4-year term or so only seems right. They have spent time defending the country, they should be part of it.
that would solve a big problem for me...i think it would be great
Absoluty not,Our troops fight for this country, illegals fight to have this country.
I am assuming you're asking about the U.S. military. Personally I don't think that should happen; but certainly recent news event protrays that the U.S. should. The French Foreign Legion has a similar program to what you are talking about. Except for the French Foreign Legion, you can also have a criminal record, etc. Basically their training is very very tough; and if you do your time as a Legion, your record is wiped and you are a French citizen.
H3LL NO. that wouldnt solve anything.
yes.......lets arm foreigners with US weapons.
didnt we try that in the 1980's with hussein.........look how well that turned out.
Automatic citizenship? Absolutely not. Citizenship after serving the US for the required minimum time? Yes. After deployment? Definitely.
Why should we just hand out citizenship to anyone who agrees to join? Anyone can agree to join, but it doesn't mean that they will stick through the enlistment time.
It's already policy hunny.
They don't get automatic, but rather preferential consideration. They will get free natrualization classes otherwise that are very expensive (that's the real reason there are so many illegals) after their tour of duty.
Once they got citizenship, they would find a way out of the military. They just want the benefits. None of the civic or military responsibilities.
No, foreigners don't have the same loyalty as Americans.
Countries that have done the same have collapsed because of it.
They should definitely be granted citizenship, they would after all be fighting to defend this country right?
I think we'd be at war until the end of time with an unending supply of people for the military. Don't forget that we'd be called racist and genocidal if we did this. Even if we only took the ones who volunteered.I also don't want people with questionable loyalties defending this country. But it is happening and likely will continue. And they are receiving citizenship for it.
Automatic? No. It would be an easy way to be infiltrated by individuals with no loyalty to America. What if 9/11 terrorist types had citizenship?
Sure, great idea. That will give the terrorists free access to our technical knowledge and weaponry systems. You should suggest that to Bush.
And I love Studbolt Slickrock's suggestion. It really plays into the idea that freedom is not something that all people should have.
Very nice and American of all of you. Good job on that treason.
I agree with Ticd and Steve. If they can fight for our country we should allow them citizenship. But they would have to pass a background check and such to make sure they are not criminals in their own country and not tied to the mob's and such!
bad idea.
No.
Absolutely not!! Would you want to be in the same foxhole with someone of questionable loyalties? Would you trust your life to someone who thinks it's okay to break our laws simply because they want something better? How many of our soldiers who were killed by "friendly fire" were killed by illegal aliens or illegal alien supporters? By allowing illegal alien lawbreakers to join our military, you are effectively training and putting the enemy in our ranks, giving them an advantage.
We might be more inclined to give residency without citizenship to people who agree to voluntary work camps for a specific number of years and who pledge not to bring their families or marry or associate with other illegal aliens.
Nice thought but ...most don't speak English well enough or at all. Most illegals (most from Mexico) do not want to be American citizens. They are here for the work, not citizenship.
It's highly un AMerican but I think we should "work" the illegals we catch. Put them into chain gangs and let them do the work they want. They'd get a roof over their head and food (no Latin food however ...part of the punishment) healthcare etc. At least we'd get something out of it. I can see where this kind of program might work but it's way to facist for the US. There really are many solutions but the problem is, no one in control wants to change the situation even though Americans by inlarge want this to end.
Not a bad suggestion. But that's not possible. Citizenship is a matter of choice. We have residents who believe that our military actions against terrorism are correct and join our military forces, but they do not wish to become citizens.
I guess it is best to let it to the individuals to decide, and not make it a law.
yes
Personally.....I'm not too fond of the idea of having non-citizens serve in the military. With the way the world is and worring about infiltration and such.....would that be wise when there's so much hatred towards Americans in general around the world. I mean if I was serving in the military.....I wouldn't feel to darn secure having those guys and girls that were burning my flag and telling the anglos to go back to Europe watching my back just so they could get citizenship......fighting for the good ole USA? Sorry.....a little late to buy that after what I know.
Most people aren't serving their country for personal gain.....it's much more.
