Why are immigration policies so universally awful?

Answer:
Because there are in every country those politicians who want to score with the racist voters. They call it "preventing large scale support for neo-faschist parties" when they behave in just the way these parties want.
They're not. They are for our protection.
They are bad...as an American I can't immigrate to Mexico unless I am retired.
Because there is normally a battle going on between the pragmatic reality of cheap labour that immigrants bring, and the knee-jerk anti-immigrant reaction of the domestic electorate.
because somebody wants it that way, they make money. and they just love the power of being able to manipulate outher peoples lives.
Penny, who told you "immigration policies so universally awful?" Do you think you have it so bad here in the good ole US of A? Our country was built on immigration. LEGAL IMMIGRATION.

Your question seems to imply that you are for open borders. Are you? If so, you are commiting your children and grand children to a very bleak future.

If a country is set up on rule of law, how can you close your eyes to the one word, il-legal. From the moment an il-legal crosses our border the rule of law goes right down the drain.

Have many friends that are legal immigrants from south of the border and to a tee, they hate the il-legals. They can see the destruction it's doing to our country.

If you think we're that bad of a country, find a bus, plane or boat and leave. Why don't you try a spell in Mexico and see what it gets you. First you want be able to own property. (I have some property on Sea of Cortez. I don't own it, I have a 20 year lease on it and pay taxes on it and at end of 20 years they can take it and all improvements back. I can't work there. Can't own a business.

You better think twice about running our country down. Try it in some other country first and see where it gets you.
I think that here in the USA ours not only need to be enforced to the letter of the law, they need to be made more like Mexico's immigration laws. That's one thing they have gotten correct.
A nation should only accept the brightest and the self supporting into their country. The policy of accepting one person. Then allowing them to bring their whole extended family over regardless of the fact that they are self supporting or not,is ludicrous..This nation as well as other nations around the world can only accept so many poor people before that country breaks down under the strain..
While most country's are far too lax in their immigration policy's I don't feel they are universally bad policy's.A nation must protect its own interests first.I personally am in favor of must stricter
immigrations laws here in my country.
You mean by letting in too many poor people who take more out in education and other service costs than they will ever be able to pay in taxes, ruining schools and services for the native population?

I see your point.
They aren't awful. Think of it this way - if you were going to let someone live in your house, would you be choosy? Why or why not?

Would you be awful to make sure they were fairly self-sufficient, healthy and could contribute to the well-being of your family?
