If an American marries a Canadian how would they go about getting dual citizen ship?
Answer:
I'm a 51 year old American who immigrated to Canada at the age of 10 with my family and then became a naturalized Canadian citizen after the birth of my first child when I was 21, having married a Canadian man. It is very doable for you to get Canadian citizenship. Don't let the naysayers here dissuade you. It is doable, so don't let that stop you from pursuing this relationship. I've never been sorry, even though I am divorced from my husband now. I have dual American and Canadian citizenship and it is the very best of both worlds. My firstborn child also has dual citizenship.
The U.S. does not recognize dual citizenship.
The above answerer is only partly correct. The US officially does not ACKNOWLEDGE dual citizenship. But they do not have any restrictions on allowing US citizens to also have another citizenship. It's really just a technicality. Sorry, that's all the info I can offer you.
Why would you want to get Canadian Citizenship? You can live and work there as an American citizen. Do you need to vote?
The same applies the other way.
Sounds like your jumping the gun there a little anyway. Slow down.
