Does massive low-skill immigration works to counteract government anti-poverty efforts?

While government works to reduce the number of poor persons, does low-skill immigration pushes the poverty numbers up? And wouldn't, low-skill immigration siphons off government anti-poverty funding and makes government efforts to shrink poverty less effective?

Low-skill immigrants pay little in taxes and receive high levels of government benefits and services. The National Academy of Sciences has estimated that each immigrant without a high school degree will cost U.S. taxpayers, on average, $89,000 over the course of his or her lifetime. This is a net cost above the value of any taxes the immigrant will pay and does not include the cost of educating the immigrant’s children, which U.S. taxpayers would also heavily subsidize.

In this way, the roughly six million legal immigrants without a high school diploma will impose a net cost of around a half-trillion dollars on U.S. taxpayers over their lifetimes. The roughly five million illegal immigrants without a high school diploma will cost taxpayers somewhat less because illegal immigrants are eligible for fewer government benefits. However, if these illegal immigrants were granted amnesty and citizenship, as proposed by the Bush Administration and legislated in a recent Senate-passed immigration bill (S. 2611), they could cost taxpayers an additional half-trillion dollars. In total, all immigrants without a high school education could impose a net cost on U.S. taxpayers of around one trillion dollars or more. If the cost of educating the immigrants’ children is included, that figure could reach two trillion dollars

Answer:
According to recent trends the real number is approx. 18.5 million. I don’t approve of amnesty for all of them, amnesty for those who have been here longer then 20 years (1986) should be given citizenship, but there should be a cap at 5 million people only, those who are married to illegal aliens should get priority, their families in Mexico and here in the US don’t get citizenship. No one should be allowed to bring any family from Mexico, or China, or anywhere else in the world to participate. My in-laws are Hispanic and some of them are here illegally, but we can’t assimilate 20-30 million people plus 20-30 million they bring over, they will assimilate us. If this happens I can guarantee a civil war within 10 years, Americans won’t stand by and watch their nation turn into a predominately Mexican nation, with Mexican politics and Mexican corruption, hell no! The only solution is the military invasion of Mexico, break them down through force and rebuild and annex later, a people will assimilate once their nation has been conquered. This is a nation of laws no matter what you would like to believe, a nation without laws (like Mexico) is not a nation, it is chaos, it is drug wars, it is poverty, it is not a place I would like to live, and neither should anyone else, with that said, Mexico is ripe for a military invasion, maybe not now but in the near future, invade them before they finish invading us!
I don't know Minutewoman, but I think if the U.S. government really wanted to end illegal immigration they would. I agree many illegal immigrants are very poor, uneducated and sometimes can act rowdy, but who's fault is it they're here?? The corrupt Mexican government who don't do a damn thing about the poor there, the indifferent rich Mexican elite, the greedy American businesses who would rather hire an illegal than an American for half the price, the American gov't who only care about illegal immigration every 4 years when election time comes around???
Honestly, I think they are all to blame equally.
illegals don't belong in this country. Illegals get free welfare, free health care, frees daycare, free housing. My daughter couldn't even get a full day of K to kids with IEP bec all the money went to fund illegals a free full day of K. Why should tax payers suffer!.Why should Child like my daughter suffer. We're Native American. illegals are just going to suck this countries resources dry like they've did to Mexico (89% come from Mexico!
You want to know the best way to get rid of them bounty hunters.
Yes, allowing unskilled illegal immigrants to remain inside our borders just doubles the already heavy burden placed on the American taxpayer by public assistance programs used by our own citizens.
It make absolutely no sense import people into this country that are without a highschool diploma. There are enough uneducated and unskilled already in this country (who by the way can speak English) by birth, why would we allow more to stay?
Deport all illegal aliens
The fault lies, dear Minutewoman, not with the illegals but with wastetful government programs.
Illegal immigration has a huge negative impact upon America and contributes significantly to school overcrowding, health care crisis, highway congestion, wage depression, unemployment of citizens, and environmental degradation.

Illegal employers deserve massively more scrutiny and enforcement to combat their employment of illegal workers. Many employment laws such as the I-9 form were designed more to shield corporations from responsibility than to enforce immigration and labor laws for the protection of citizens and this must be corrected. Illegal employers should be considered anti-American, otherwise they would be hiring Americans at a livable wage.

Illegal immigration has resulted in mass lawlessness which creates an ominous double-standard where citizens are expected to obey the law but illegal aliens are not.

Immigration is an issue of limits and lawfulness, not of race and culture. When immigration is viewed only racially and culturally, limits and legality will never be imposed. The debate must focus on limitations and lawfulness, otherwise open borders will make the United States a marketplace and not a country.

Illegal immigration is actually an issue of nationalism, not racism. All countries have the right to protect its borders from those who enter illegally. This means foreign nationals do not have the right to violate immigration laws.

Violating U.S. immigration law is not a human right. The United Nations state; “Every one has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.” The human rights proclamation provides global citizens the right of emigration and return to their home country but does not include the right to violate the immigration laws of the host country of their choice.
Illegal aliens should return voluntarily to their home country. Once in their home country foreigners can apply for residency via proper procedures. The American public increasingly is opposing amnesty and the likelihood of future amnesties is declining rapidly.

We have more than enough of our own poor and under-educated
people. We certainly dont need to import them from other countrys.A nation can only support so many of the poor before the entire nation is brought down to that level. We need better educated, professional, educated legal immigrants. Not more poor and un or under educated people flooding this nation.
