Why did so many Pakistani's emmigrate from Pakistan to the UK in the late 60's and the 70's?

mostly they are from the Pakistan-held Kashmir...
the first wave was post-1965 Indo-Pak war as political asylum seekers
the second wave was when the "Mangla" Dam was under construction at Mirpur district in kashmir and the land owners were given heavey compensations.... thus being able to join their already emmigrated relatives in UK
second reason is the middle-east oppurtunity in mid-70's that caused a huge number of Pakistanis (from all over the country) moving to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and UAE.... thus decreasing the UK- immigration trend
for a better life one would assume and thats why they still do today . i might be wrong but as far as i know pakistan gained independence from the british empire in the 60's and a lot of people were given the chance to emigrate to the uk so rather than live under a pakistani government lots of pakistani's chose to continue under british rule and move to the uk . the details of my answer might not be correct but the scenario is ... i think..

Because englands government is stupid, being English used to mean something we controled a quarter of the world but then we turned soft we let them in because they said they were under threat of execution or torture but they were lying and others took advantage - last year 60,000 came to england! Changes in immigration laws caused a concern that Britain would close its borders, hence dependent wives/family, joined men/husbands already settled here.
Overall the population in the UK has declined year on year up to 2005 and the growth of the EU.
Pakistani familes tend to be younger, healthier and draw less state benefits. An ageing population and changes in family size will all affect this.
