Should astronauts coming back from a space tour have to show passport upon arrival ?
If they have to show a passport, it does sound strange to have a customs and immigration at NASA.
Answer:
As a practical issue, it isn't necessary.
There are very few cases where people do not
arrive on the same vehicle that they left on,
though with the advent of multiple countries
having access to ISS, this is no longer true.
Given more people in space, and the
advent of our first space related crime, yes, I expect
people WILL be presenting papers.
I'd love to get that stamp in my passport!
not a good idea cos they usually land in the sea..or it might burn up on re-entry
We don't seem to be enforcing our laws against illegal aliens so now you want space travelers to have a visa. ... Sure why not ,there aren't very many space travelers I'm sure they could regulate that with out much problem.
It may be good to get that law in effect for all the future space travelers.
Probably should when they come back from the international space station. However, the passport rules are for foreigners. I believe it is unconstitutional to keep an American Citizen out of the USA. You just have to prove you are one.
usually these guys are already known by the gov't where they are landing. they got through extensive testinng. I do think we extend space to our world, as far as we can get out there.
As they are not coming from another country I would think not.
Naaa, they just drop in!
Considering how few people actually travel through space currently, I don't think it is necessary. The gov. has an exact toll on who, where and how many are on the shuttle that is, unless they aren't carrying any extra-terrestrials home with them on the return flight, of course. At most, they should have an agricultural check at the end of the flight.
They are like military personnel and do not need to show passports upon reentry to the USA.
I actually have a copy of an INS/USDA inspection form signed by the crew of the Apollo crew (Neil Armstrong, and crew), when they landed in the ocean and were picked up and taken to Hawaii, and the declaration shows their signature and their cargo, being moon rocks and dust. It might sound stupid, but they did leve the US and the world for that matter, and need to clear Customs (officially), and you might not believe this but when the president leaves the US to go visit other countries, not only does he have the Secret Service on board his plane, he also has a Customs Officer to clear his entrance and his crew back into the US, its just a formalilty, but it is done. And believe it, and I know due to my job....
LOL.
I hope you are not serious.
I would think that would only apply if they were visiting another life planet.
