Unknown just like the total amount of Illegals is unknown ? If the estimation is 20,000,000 , then it`s 20,000,000 . Just recently a reporter went undercover to see how the processed worked . In San Diego , after only 15 minutes he was approached by a man ( later found out to be Illegal ) and was offered a complete set of American Citizen paperwork , Drivers License , SS card and number , and "birth certificate", showing his birthplace to be in a town in " North Carolina " 3000 miles away ! Now ; why can`t the authorities do this as a sting once a week , and arrest these Illegals . Oh, by the way all the information was on an American killed in Vietnam ? See what kind of criminals you are dealing with here ?

A person I know was able to get a REAL ID from the DMV and he's not a legal alien. It's partly the government's fault for this sort of thing happening. Also, so many people are willing to bend the rules for enough money.

Illegals do it as legals do it. Legals do it in order to not pay child support or if they have criminal records. So not all illegals do it. Even if they do, they are still paying into that social... so i'm sure the government knows. It's just more money they can spend on the war.

I've seen reports that there were over 6 million 'non-match' hits with social security. It wasn't a government study, just a newspaper article. I can't say they are all illegal immigrants. Garden variety criminals may be using fake ID too, to work.
I don't know, but I would imagine it to be a known quantity, because when a person works with a fake SSN, the IRS is going to know that the name and SSN don't match up. Of course they send out letters to employers stating that they are prohibited from confronting the worker about this.
