Does anybody know if I am a citizen of the UK?
Am I a citizen of Great Britain?
Answer:
If you were born in the US, and never changed your citizenship, then you are a citizen of the US. Do you live in the US? If so, you remain a US citizen, so go pay your taxes like a good girl.
You are an American Citizen because your parents never applied for dual citizenship however you could still apply if you want to. Contact your local Embassy for more information.
You cannot become a British citizen unless you are legally residing in the UK for at least 5 years, even if your father has a British passport.
ps...this applies to all other European Union countries.
Just being born on U.S. soil makes you a citizen. Even if a couple were a vaction from another country and here for only a short time, if the mother gave birth to the baby on U.S. soil that baby automaticly enjoys U.S. citizenship. It was a practice enacted after slavery was abolished, and is now reffered to in the Immigration debate as "Anchor Babies". Pregnent mothers from Latin American countries wait until they are close, 7-8 months along and then cross the border. If they can make it in, then give birth to their child, the child is automaticly a US citizen and as the childs guardian; the mother cannot be deported or forced to leave; at least for 18 years. Sounds crazy, but true.
