You want to work, right?
You are eligible to work already, even without your actual SS card. Assuming of course, that your particular immigration status allows you to work.

I have seen anywhere from a week and a half to 4 weeks to receive a SS card.
This happens all the time with summer J-1 students who apply for their card, begin work immediately, and wait sometimes a month to receive their actual SS cards.

It can take a few weeks. When my children were born it took at least 3 or 4 weeks to get them.
Maybe there are about 5 million people ahead of you.
