I think you have a valid point. I really wish that Mexico would be straightened out. I don't know what the problem is but it must be significant.
Those people are sitting on a gold mine and why it has not been developed is beyond me. Of course their laws prohibit foreign capital from coming in for development. Those little boarder towns could be like Disney world. $$$$ would come to them, they wouldn't have to go get them.

well if we weren't such a diversion for them a dream of escape then i think they would start focusing on their own country and it is long over due.

Besides having the southern portion of the North American continent, Mexico had owned almost all of the southern portion of the present day United States. I don't think the people would be demanding much of anything if their government had commenced to explore the remaining northern sections and claimed the land. Mexico's border could have been with Canada's.

I find it funny how many seem to think that without Mexico, the US would just stop functioning, etc. Right. Because no one here knows how to clean a toilet, build a house, or plant a shrub. The US would be fine without Mexico, but what would so many families in Mexico do without the welfare check sent to Mexico via MoneyGram or Western Union?
They would go somewhere else? But since the USA isn't going anywhere they would go to South America. I'd like it better if the illegals would just become citizens all ready and stop wasting our tax dollars on them! Work, and pay the government it is how we live here.

Well, the probably people wouldn't go south. Guess Mexico would have to cough up some pesos for it's own people instead of raking ours across the border. Maybe those who protest here instead of lending their numbers to the ones who do protest there would speak up there.
