What other hisorical events are we going to erradicate from our records for the sake of covering our own butts or justifying our double standards?
Why don't we get rid of the records of slavery? That was a huge hit against us as a nation & made us look (do I dare say it?) prejudice. The Blacks have used that against us for far too long to try to gain amends. Let's just do away with that whole history lesson.
And the Civil War. So long ago. It's irrelevant. Let's just do away with that too, ok?

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Many countries, not just us, started with outsiders coming in and conquering the previous habitants, practiced slavery, and done even more sick stuff than us in the past and today they all are sovereign nations with laws against illegal immigration. No, Ancient history should not be eradicated, but it should not be used as an excuse for illegal entry to a country, either.

There is no way to stop Blacks from feeling that they have been SHAFTED for the last couple hundred years. They believe that the mass majority of them live in poverty because of us white folks.
Most Black men I know(and hear about) would rather sell drugs, pimp girls, commit theft or sit on the porch and drink beer all day. The reason that they are where they are, has become a problem within their own race and culture.
Look at it this way..
The Mexicans have illegally come to America from a DARN near 3rd world country, and they have taken up construction jobs, landscaping, restaurant ownership and many other fields...30 million illegals....why didnt the Blacks take it upon themselves to do these jobs 10-15 years ago. If they did, they would be prospering now.
Why are you getting so worked up over something that happened centuries ago?. Every country has dark chapters in their history books. So what's your point?. Ask your doctor to increase your Prozac dosage. The current one doesn't seem to be doing the trick for you.
History is a tricky subject - I think it was Howard Zinn who wrote that history is written by the winners. Everything we know about the past - the good stuff and the bad stuff - is biased in some form because you can not fully understand something unless you were involved in it yourself.
No, we shouldn't stop teaching children about America's slave past, or about the Civil War, but we need to teach them that there are many sides to the same story, and we need to stop glorifying certain events. Did Christopher Columbus really discover America? No. In fact, he never once stepped foot on America as we know it. Was George Washington an impeccably honest person? To his friends, probably, but I wouldn't know because I never met the man.
We have a tendency to look at the past with rose colored glasses, and I've never felt that was the proper way to teach children about where we came from.

What continent still has slavery? Africa. Every man women and child should pay any black person $45,000 in reparations. Then they could sit on their front porch and drink beer and call all of us suckers. They are not dumb, they are lazy.

Your approach to truth is honest. Yet, things in that realm are often somewhat complex.
Some of our history was recorded incorrectly and taught for generations based on error, lies , and prejudice. Only after it seems to not matter anymore can we get a concensus to correct it. Of course, it does matter, but who is to say the changes should be allowed or not, and based on what, is another matter just as important and just as delicate.
Then there is the matter of soverienty. No matter what is rewritten in the western world, for example, who is going to tell Japan that WWII - NEVER HAPPENED? And things like that. There would be a long standing opposition to the lie.
As for relevant things from 200 years ago, there was a crafty piece of penmanship once known as The Constitution, and if it loses its relevance, it should not be due to one screwy dude living in a cave in or near Pakistan.
Even though we never were who or what we thought we were, we should cherish out ideals and our history and not use the differences between them as excuses for double standards.
We should never forget the past, but we can't hold people for it forever. I was reading a Doonseberry. and A iraqi and an American soldier was suppose to pick up some trouble maker. THe Iraqi said he had to kill him. The soldier said our order is to just pick him up. THe Iqaq said no I need to get revenge for something his family did to my family. The soldier said when did this happen. THe Iraqi said over a thousand years ago. I hate some of the African AMerican leaders, because they are always demanding reparation, but they do not much else. I see the Islam nation a bit different because they admit the atrocities, but try to move their people pass it despite of the current and pass abuse. I felt that they realize to make a better place for their people, they have to work at it and not expect others to be "fair". THe CHinese , Irish, Greeks, Jews and other nationalities has proven they can be successful despite racism. You can't live in the past, because you can't move forward. The African American leaders I mention previously has got their people trapped. THey continously blame others for not advancing and having their people feel hopeless. It's all "whiteys" fault. I do see racism, but the failure can not be blames entirely on a group of people, and those who do is deluding themselves of their own failures.
We can't keep trying to get justice from other nationalities, because the revenge would not stop. All nationalites had something bad done to them as well as something bad they did.
I get sick of hearing how we stole the land from the Mexicans here, when Mexico and Spain stole the land from the natives.
I see them coming to this site accusing America of all the wrongs we did, but refuse to acknowledge their wrongs and some even perpetrate further the same abuses. THey keep coming here pointing their finger at us for slavery and killing off the natives and stealing land. Yet Mexico stole land from the natives m enslaved them in the missionaries and then murdered them when they found the Natives in such land as California unmanageable. THe Mexican government still murder Indians in the Chiapas region as recently as the 90's.
If we don't start moving forward, the killing wont stop. THat was how Hitler get's started. He wanted some of the land back that was stolen from Germany. He wanted Austria, Poland, Czech and parts of France. Greater Germany.
We learn History so we won't repeat it, not so we can point our fingers at each other.
No one is saying it didn't happen. What we are saying is that it doesn't matter.
Americans don't want illegal immigrants. It's that simple. It doesn't matter how much you whine. It doesn't matter how much you try to rationalize your point of view. It doesn't matter that Europeans took the land from the natives way back when.
You need to focus on the here and now, and right now illegal immigrants are not welcome in our country. Its not about race, its not about poverty, it is about what is good for our country. And a flood of people we did not invite in or even know anything about at all is NOT good for our country.
Are Native Americans jumping up saying we need to let illegals in? No
Are Mexican-Americans jumping up and saying we need to let illegals in? Not really (approx. 50% of them are opposed to amnesty with 20% indifferent, leaving 30% who are for it)
Black, White, Red, Yellow & Brown Americans all say NO!
