Personally, I'm sorry if this offends, but I don't think that we should let people live here that cant speak basic English. I especially don't think that they should revieve a job seekers allowance, as they probably can't get employment withouth communication. It seems so strange to me, I know we give out a fair bit of benifits so we seem like a good county to come to, but why come here if you can't comunicate with people. Ah yes, because we let them! Anyone else able to offer another opinion as I admit I don't understand the entire situation, and as a white British working citizen I can only offer one view.....

You are echoing the concerns of many English speaking countries who open their borders to immigration. It is a problem in many places.
I believe a country becomes stronger with ethnic diversity...and certainly makes for more interesting urban areas. You can learn a great deal about cultures of others and enjoy the cuisine of many other countries...without having to leave your own! But I also believe that everyone must be competent in the national language...whatever that is.
And that goes for English speaking people who are living in other countries as well...it is well documented that Americans living abroad are very reluctant to learn the tongue of the country they live in.

People moving to a new country should be assimilated into that country and that means learning the language, so you are right.
Just think if you went to their country.. would you be expected to speak their langueage? would you have to follow thier rules...YES.. its should be expected on both sides...
If they dont want to speak your language then maybe they have choses the wrong country to move to.......
Sounds like you have come to the same conclusion that common sense folk have.
Of course, they should learn to speak English as well as a national and respect our remaining traditions and beliefs without trying to impose theirs on our i.e Sharia law

They can speak English but then act like then can't.
Any person moving permanently to a new country should expect to learn the language, laws and customs of that locale. If they then chose to keep their own customs, etc, they should go home. In the interim they and their dependents should not expect nor receive any support from the state to which they moved.
ok this is a very touchy subject for most people......my view is if you want to come to the USA you need to learn the language. you cant go to Mexico without knowing/learning spanish, France without knowing/learning french, Italy without knowing/learning italian.....etc....personally i cant stand calling places and getting someone on the phone that dont know our language or hearing please press 1 for english. that really annoys me. the USA is an english speaking country period end of story.
Believe it or not learning a second language is a skill that some people for a variety of reasons don't have.!.It doesn't make them dumb because usually they obtain another skill you probably don't have !
I work in health care. And near the boarders the Mexican women come over to have their babies, making their babies American citizens. The hospitals asked the women to pay 100.00 for their deliveries, and they all refused. We are giving them citizenship and free health care now. And they march and want more rights.

Americans must demand a US Constitutional Amendment that clarifies English as our National Language. I live in Texas and it's unbelieveable how many people refuse to speak English. The liberals will argue against this becuase they are seeking to divide and conquer while true conservatives seek to unify and empower.
Write your Members of Congress today and urge them to support English first as our National Language and as a Constitutional Amendment. Then go to http://www.ronpaulexplore.com and urge Congressman Ron Paul to jump into the Presidential race. Without him the only candidates will be those who already have a track record of destroying and ignoring the United States Constitution.

If you come to any country then you should speak their native english
Yes they should do but baring in mind when British people first went to America and Australia, I don't recall them learning to speak Native American or Aboriginal languages.
And when British people live in Spain, Turkey or Cyprus many of them don't bother to learn the native languages now.
i think it is fair that if you come here to live that you need to speak the english language. if i went to live in a different country i would eventually have to do the same. i don't think it is fair the way people are treated in these situation's.
