Immigration status?
What is my status if it takes INS longer than 90 days to get me the new card?
If my current card expires end of May but I only get my new card after that, can I still work?
What is my status in this situation?
I have been on the website and it was extremely unhelpful concerning this matter.
Answer:
You will still be able to work and continue on even with an expired green card, the only thing you can't do is leave the country without permission, and if you do lkeave without permission, you will have to pay the full amount again that youy already paid to INS for a one time re-entry fee. So if you don't have to leave the country, then continue your usual routine until your new card comes in.
Your status does NOT change...you are still a permanent resident. The expiration on the Green Card itself does not mean you will lose your residency...it ONLY means YOUR CARD EXPIRED NOT YOUR RESIDENCY.....YOU ARE STILL LEGAL AND ELIGIBLE TO WORK.....file your renewal forms and wait patiently for your NEW Green Card to arrive....
you are still an elligibl immigrant good luck my dear
