I beg to differ, the Alamo defenders were a cross section of Americans defending the rights of the Republic of Texas...Oh yeah and there were some individuals from Mexico there too. All fought valiantly in the face of overwhelming odds and defended the government cheese to the last man.

The Alamo was in Mexico, the Texans had been allowed to live in the State of Texas by the Mexican government over a 30 year period. The Texans didn't want to be part of Mexico so they declared independence, the Mexican government under Santa Anna fought and won the battle of the Alamo, later Santa Anna was defeated by an American army at the battle of San Jacinto, and Texas had won their independence, and became the lone star State.

The citizens of Texas (both speakers of English and Spanish) rebelled. The Alamo was an old San Antonio mission that was defended by men who counted in vain on General Sam Houston for rescue. Less than 300 Texans were left to defend the Alamo against Santa Anna's army of 2,000 plus. Commander in Chief Santa Anna was able to slay all but seven of the defenders in battle and those seven were executed immediately after capture. The war chant of "Remember The Alamo" was aimed at General Houston as much as General Santa Anna.
