I'm sick of people thinking that they can openly break our laws. We do have immigration laws, but can they do it the legal way ? Oh no, that would be to hard. I don't think the asker is saying that it's okay to be an illegal immigrant. The asker wants to know how you feel about some of the racist sentiments that can go with the illegal immigrant issue.
(I'm putting this at the top since commenting on the question versus the answers has made my answer very long.)
If you know for a fact that someone is an illegal immigrant, saying "go back where you came from" isn't racist.
If you say it based on how someone looks or speaks, *then* it's racist!
I agree that ppl should come to the US legally and not try to get in illegally.
However, fellow answer-providers, where is the venom towards the ppl who are hiring illegals and paying them a pittance?
Illegal aliens are criminals, but the way ppl are talking about it you'd think they were violent criminals rather than committing a crime of paperwork and tax evasion for which anyone who hires them--our fellow US citizens who are all too happy to 'save money,' are aiding and abetting.
I'd say that illegal aliens do need to be dealt with, but the hatred seems gratuitous, sad, and probably misplaced.
If they "only" picked the illegal path, then why do we have legal immigrants? There should be none according to Gary (who answered before me). Now he says there's a very high percent, and not really being into this issue I don't know. I'd love to see the estimated/actual numbers available.
If ppl want the issue do be dealt with, they need to truly deal with the issue at hand and not cloud it with hyperbole and prejudice.
Meaning, just deal with the issue of illegal immigration, and don't add other issues to it for scapegoating purposes.
To the asker: illegal immigrants aren't "criminals, too" they are criminals period. Hence the designation "illegal." It would be difficult to be an illegal alien without *at least* being without papers (illegal) and evading taxes (also illegal!!).
An illegal alien might be able to pay taxes via identity theft or some other form of fraud, but even that is a problem, don't you agree?
That being said, we can call anyone who breaks the speed limit a "criminal" (even if they aren't caught--after all they did break the law) or someone who doesn't report their tips on their taxes, or whatever else. Of course they'd probably balk at that. I know it's not quite the same thing, but it just shows you that you have to look at the big picture. That goes for ppl on both sides of the issue.
It seems to me that ppl hardly read the questions or other answers before they comment. I was born the USA, and the asker says s/he is too, so who are the illegals that some of the answerers are trying to personally address?
My personal take would be that whatever process is in place for dealing with illegals is what should be applied whenever illegals are identified. That would make giving them healthcare or social security they paid into kind of pointless, because as soon as they showed up for such benefits they'd most likely be deported (or at least arrested for fraud!). If they legally have a chance to plead their case, they should get it. Whatever the law says.
Staying on a legal standpoint, I wasn't aware that cultural assimilation was a legal requirement! If Americans valued assimilation so much, I imagine we would have assimilated Native Americans long ago or at least by now. Or maybe we would have assimilated into their culture and society. But I have no stance on that issue--it's just an observation.
Another answer-provider below me said illegals aren't smart. Of course breaking the law isn't very smart so they do have a strike against them, but insulting ppl doesn't make you smarter, it just makes you look bad (for your future reference).
As for education, aren't the children most likely US citizens and therefore would have just as much of a right to education as your children? They didn't choose what their parents did. You can't logically be for enforcing the law on one hand and violating it on the other.
Illegal immigration needs to be made unattractive on several fronts. Rather than spending money on militarization and fortification, they should spend money on enforcement (deportation/fines/whatever else the law dictates), which could be at least partially funded with *very* stiff penalties for ppl who hire illegal immigrants.
I assume we are including ppl no matter where they're from who overstay student or work visas, etc...
About the youtube graph--if you notice, very high into that graph on a "danger level" was our current population--around 300 million!
Graphs can look as disastrous as you want depending on the scale. Seems like lot of effort just to talk about what we should set our immigration levels at. They should just calculate the stats and set the levels without agonizing. Especially since the "green" growth shown on the graph would be almost purely immigrant based on the founding of our country. My ancestors didn't come over on the Mayflower but I'm from the "green" part of the chart. The red represents immigrants and their descendants (even though they'd be born in the US) from 1970 and onward.
We can all agree or disagree, but we all need to learn that no matter what our feelings on a question we ask or answer we should be civil towards each other.
That sense of superiority that seems to go with insulting behavior is sadly ironic.

Howdy, if they have papers saying its OK then there ain't anything we can do about it. But when aliens brake the law and enter our county they do not deserve to be here and hopefully will be gotten out and never permitted to even try to get to come back legally.
