Can a Canadian marry an American, move to America, and still be a Canadian citizen? If so, how does it work?

We were just wondering, if he were to move here when we get married, would he have to get American or Dual citizenship? Or can he live here, in the States, without it? How does this work out? Also, what is the process for doing so?
And, can it work the other way? If I were to move to Canada, would I have to get Canadian citizenship or dual citizenship, or could I live there as an American?

Yes. Marrying a foreign nation doesn't cause you to forfeit your citizenship. He will just be a Canadian citizen living abroad. He will have to get a visa of some sort to stay here for an extended time. I don't believe citizenship is required, but might be easier on you in the long run to apply for dual citizenship (or whoever ends up moving out of their country).
It should not be a problem, provided its a genuine marriage and not a marriage of convinience! Hence, the authorities would certainly make some checkings to make sure it is genuine, before giving permission to live in the USA, or v versus!
Yea I think so. as long as they come back every year to keep their dual cotzenship.
The Canadian retains his citizenship (granted at birth) until such time as it is renounced. The marriage does not automatically confer citizenship though it is a basis for obtaining such citizenship. Neither Canada nor the US will have a problem with you living in either location.

I believe that you can marry anyone you want, and still be a citizen of the country from which you were born--if you choose to be.

I don't believe that the American or Canadian government would object to giving citizenship to the spouse of one of their citizens--if they want it.

I, personally, would like to live in both countries--winter in a southwest state, and summer in Canada. That would suit me just fine.
its not that easy to get american citizenship...to marry an usc does not mean you have citizenship. you can apply for it after beeing married to an usc for 3 years .
yes they would apply for permanent residency. They are still a citizen of Canada. Also you have to be a resident first before a citizen anyway, it is up to them if they ever want to apply to be a citizen.
