Getting married in the US and live abroad?

Hi, here is my situation
-I'm on a J-1 and I found a job back in Europe
-We are going to get married during the J-1 in the US
-She is a US citizen
-We will live apart for some time and I will visit her during this period.

Should I apply for a VISA (K-3) or enter with a tourist visa?
Should I declare I'm going to visit my wife here in the US?

thanks for any help you might provide

Answer:
All I can really say is DON'T enter with a tourist visa to visit your wife, you will find that you may get detained, and deported, then find out you need to pay a very large bill in order to visit the US again. Contact the Department of Justice and tell them your situation, DO NOT take advice from anyone other than imigration for this situation. I post this warning because I was going to be leaving the US to re apply for the correct visa and had some small headacke over it that put me behind getting the correct visa by several months. No big deal and no extra cost, just a huge pain.

Immigration only wants the correct paperwork, and since 9-11 they have changed a lot.
Even though it is not the cheapest option, I would also recommend retaining an immigration attorney familiar with the embassy you'll be getting your visa at. I had a friend who was engaged to a Jordanian. They wanted to visit the U.S. so his parents could meet her before the wedding, but the K-3 visa was denied b/c the consular officer didn't believe that she would come back to Jordan afterwards (they want to stay in Jordan for the forseeable future).

Once you marry an American you are entitled to immigrant status barring past criminal/deportation/terrorist issues, but getting non-immigrant status can be tricky.
