Why don't you want to learn Spanish, or French, German, Russian - a dozen or more other languages that we xenophobic SOB's choose not to learn. We somehow expect everyone to understand us if we speak English very loudly, and slowly.
But to be direct. They don't learn English because there's nowhere for them to learn it. There aren't schools, or facilitates for them to be taught English.
But since we're Americans, we have access to them. So here's a tip - start learning Chinese, Mandarin to be specific.
You're worried about Mexicans who sneak across the border to do jobs others don't want to.
I'm worried about the fact China is becoming an economic superpower. Largely thanks to Wal-Mart.
Just so you know, there are a lot more illegal aliens than ones with sombreros or turbans. We have ones from Germany, Sweden and even Canada. Oddly enough, no one focuses on them. I wonder why.
I believe the thought of learning English scares them.
Becase they do NOT want to be Americans, and learn OUR language,etc!!!! They want to stay mexican citizens, but they like to RAPE our country!!!!
Such broad statements are usually untrue, although they often have at least a grain of truth to them. Those who don't have to, naturally won't. I suspect many would like to, but doing so takes a fair amount of time and effort.

Its more or less to show us that they will never be Americans, nor will they ever want to be called Americans.
We do. But we also want everyone else to learn Spanish.
Because they want to 'win', to have everyone cater to them, and they can't do that if they assimilate. Many of them are here for the money and benefits. They use this country like a money tree, but their hearts belong to their home countries. It seems to me that it's a matter of pride for them to not assimilate, as they feel it would be an insult to their heritage and people.
I am sure they want to but as they come here anxious to steal jobs, they have no time to learn.
If they are illegal, obviously they don't care about the foundations of our country anyway... including language.
Easy they don't want to assimulate into American culture. Its truly sad.
Because they don't want to adopt American customs...because then it would show that they are assimilating and they don't want that. They LOVE Mexico and show that by their sending back major amounts of money back to Mexico. If they learned English then people would expect them to USE English, and then they wouldn't be able to talk behind people's back about people, or plead ignorance to what is going on. It is ALL these reasons!
They don't have to. Everything from McDonalds to walmart to rest areas have signs in both english and spanish and many employers won't hire you unless you speak both. Society is enabling them to carry on without ever having to learn a word of english. It's stupid.
We cater and spend extra money to make things more convienient for criminals who are here illegally.
They don't care about American laws, American citizens or America itself. They think they can just come in the US and take over. That is why Spanish is everywhere!
You would think that illegals would follow the examples of all the other millions of immigrants who came to the US. They adapated to the American way of life, became US Citizens and learned English. Guess that is too much to hope for huh????

Most of them don't want to learn ANYTHING (school dropouts) except how to do menial labor, stand in line for US benefits, and have sex.

Americans go around the globe screaming their patriotism from the rooftops!! and the reason why a lot of them don't learn english is 1) yes, lack of will, or 2) they are marginalized, working a low-paying job, living in low-inclome ghettos, and most likely working with other immigrants, thus not needing to speak the language, or 3) the WANT TO, but they're too busy working three low-paying jobs to make ends meet. I agree, it's a problem, but a bigger problem is the blatant ignorant racism that Americans perpetrate on all non-white nationalities. so much for "land of the free", and defending freedom around the world. it's sickening. I'm sooooooo glad I don't live in your country anymore (yes, i am Mexican... and was NEVER an illegal alien... oh, and as you can tell, I speak English- go figure!!).

This sort of question has been asked numerous times so if you're expecting a different answer there is no answer that would make sense to you. Many people that came from other countries do speak the English language along with their native languages whether or not you want to believe it. And it includes the people you are referring to with you put downs.
lazy - they want us to learn Spanish -- I see/hear MANY Spanish speakers that can speak English, they just don't choose to.
no where does it say that English is the language that is "supposed" to be spoken in the United States, and in fact the most spoken language is chinese. Furthermore how do you know they don't speak english? You probably don't even known any illegals personally and have only seen them chatting amongst themselves in the grocery store or something. Why would they speak english then if they were amongst their own country's people?? It's not fair to expect them to completely forget where they are from and turn into an american through and through. This country is a diverse one. I've seen people that speak chinese, russian, african..blah blah blah...and I don't ask them why they don't learn english or speak english more. Because they are from that country, with their own language, and we have no right to tell them to change it just because it bothers us to hear them talk and not be able to understand them. Stop asking stupid questions...and if you really want to get your facts straight next time you might want to actually research what you are talking about before you stick your foot in your mouth.

ps...young kids DO learn. they aren't afraid to try. but older people are scared, or stuck to their ways, or...see above.
