Can you change a tourist visa to an employment visa in India if you find a job?

I assume you are an Indian resident and currently hold a non-expired US tourist visa. If you have a job offer from a US company to work in USA, they have to file an H1-B petition to USCIS on your behalf. Once the petition is approved, you have to obtain an employment visa through one of the US consulates in India. When you apply for employment visa, they just cancel your tourist visa when they approve your employment visa.
