Italy help???

How can my aunt live in italy legally. A couple of years ago, she decided to take a trip there and wanted to move permanantly. We live in the U.S. by the way, and one day she just packed her stuff and moved. She stayed there past the 90 day tourist thing, and so after that i guess she was there illegally. She couldnt get a job otherwise the government or whatever would find out she was there. Is it possible for her to permanantly live there and get a job legally.
