Why do Americans complain about illegal immigrants taking their jobs?

I agree. Immigrants often do the kind of work that American citizens won't do. I would argue that they keep this economy running because they often work in production which means American citizens can move on to work in the service sector and unless you have a stable production economy, you cannot have a service industry.
You do know that there are Americans who are not fully educated, right? Some are still in high school or trying to work their way through college. You say "get a better education" some of them use those jobs to pay for that education they need to get. An education isn't free.
But the key answer is, the illegal aliens should not have a job at all.
Not everyone is smart enough to be a doctor or judge nor does our nation need many more than we already have. So what do you plan for those people that don't quite make the cut?
Well they do, but i do agree with your point. The richest country in the world should be able to educate its people past high school. I mean a GNP of more than 4 trillion dollars and only 5 percent of the world's population and they can't get somebody past the 12th grade. Its not that hard, most schools don't even require homework anymore.
Before I answer, I want people to understand I do not think illegal aliens are the problem they have been painted to be. That said, they do tend to depress the wages of those who work in restaurant work, construction and food processing.
Don't blame the illegal alien if you don't have a job. There are plenty of jobs, especially if you have a skill. If your area is depressed economically, you might need to move.
I live in California where this state has dealt with illegal immigration for decades now, a thing many states are just now dealing with. It's been overblown.
It's just that they WANT the option to pick cotton...not necessarily that they'll TAKE it.
Truth is, this is all the government's fault, and blaming the Mexican's and hating them isn't going to change what's happened. The government allowed this to happen.
This doesn't happen only in the USA you know. It happens everywhere. It's happened in Canada where the Asians came and bought out half our banks and buildings. They work harder than any Canadian would care to and took all the university positions and high paying jobs...ditto on the other end when immigrants came and worked factories, illegally and for minimum wages or less...we are inundated with Polish people who aren't exactly the warmest lot in the world and it's all give me, give me, give me...like a lottery win for them I'm sure.add lovely FREE TRADE brought in by the USA which took away any manufacturing we had let, and we are screwed good now. We are a service oriented nation.

Now you know what it's like to not only not have any education or healthcare (thanks to your government who always has other priorities and NO MONEY...for it's people anyway) but now you have no menial jobs too...which means you better get off your butts and GET an education somehow. For example, a packing company gets raided and the illegal aliens are caught. The company needs workers and the next day CITIZENS get the jobs. The illegals took their jobs!

Your logic is a little lopsided. First off I have my degree and a great job, luckily for me I received a scolarship and along with help from my parents and thousands in student loans to pay back I am one of the fortunate ones, some are not so fortunate.

To answer your question, Americans want immigrants who follow the laws of this country, respect the taxpayers and pay your own way. Illegal aliens do not fall into that category.

I don't think it's much "study harder" than "try harder".
It's easier to sit around and complain about the situation, rather than suck it up and go out and do some of these jobs. Some might be surprised about the about of money that can be derived by creating your own situation and fulfilling someone's need for an employee.
Where I work (in the hotel business), pay is not that great, but younger people take that next step up to a better paying job, while others decide it's too much work, and go on welfare. Some older people specify they won't work over a certain number of hours per week so they won't lose benefits from social services or Social Security.
While the illegals are a problem, they do jobs that most Americans wouldn't even consider.
It is because companies would rather pay people UNDER the table and less than pay for competent people.
Maybe some US citizens did not have the same opportunities. Also 15-20 yrs ago, you could still get a pretty good job with just a high school diploma.
You may not see them as judges or doctors, but some of them do own businesses and make a lot more than a hard working citizen.

They are doing nothing for us except bringing our wages down. Manufacturing positions, data entry positions, and many other positions that pay pretty good do not require an education. Soon as they start hiring illegals, watch that pay go down to min.
What we complain about is dirty illegals bringing diseases,trashing our neighborhoods, bringing crime, demanding benefits, refusing to speak English, having no respect for our laws,citizens,culture or our country, acting like bums by drinking on street corners, pissing on bus stops leaving their trash everywhere except a trash can and living off American taxpayers, enjoying American life and demanding more from our government while remaining completely loyal to mexico or whatever stupid gay country they are from. Not everybody can be a judge or a doctor. There are many people in the US who never graduate from high school. About 50% of Hispanics, for example, do not graduate. They need jobs. Illegals take their jobs or undercut their wages. How can they get off welfare if there are no jobs to be had?

Because they are undermining the efforts of GENERATIONS of effort. It doesn't take and education to pick tomatoes. But it did take generations to get people to realize it was a valuable job that didn't abuse people.
The way I see it...if you can work and do...you should be able to eat and meet your basic needs without government aid.. Hey...I EXPECT Dr's and laywers to do better. They deserve to live better. I don't beleive some bimbo deserves to live better just because she can shoot kids out as fast as a car hop does quarters.
If right now, this day,.every college student became a lawyer....we wouldn't make it. A country doesn't solely survive on lawyers or Dr's or tomatoe pickers. We need a BALANCED mesh of ALL. Otherwise a Dr' becomes as valuable as a dentist, a landscaper as a printer, writer, gardner, babysitter. or neuro surgeon. We all NEED each and every thing. One is no better or no important than the other. They all work together. I am measureably "better" than alot of people. But my "benefit" will quickly become NOTHING without the work and cooperation of others.

Not everybody can be a doctor, judge, or a lawyer.
Not everybody is book smart. A lot of people have skills with their hands.blue collar work.
Not everybody can AFFORD college, or education beyond high school, or was given a scholarship.

Illegal aliens do not "keep this country running". If the U.S. needed more workers, all we need to do is increase our immigration quota...we don't need illegal alien criminals here to fill our jobs.
There are hundreds of millions of people throughout the world that would love to immigrate here, not only people from countries south of our border.
