Being aged 45 or over limits your visa options to employer sponsored visas.
Where you a soldier in the RAF or did you study a trade? If you are skilled in a trade I would recommend going through the Trades Assessment process and then looking for a sponsor in Regional Australia that could sponsor you under the Regional Skilled Migration Scheme.
Your other option might be sponsorship into the police force. South Australia run a campaign every year however it is very competitive.
Last time I looked into it, Australia had an age limit of 44 for migration.
