As it stands as of today with a retained attorney $2300-$3830. The range exists if you retain an attorney and their services can range from $1500-$3000. If you do it on your own
to apply for residency
application fee $325.00- I-130 form (this is just for the Department of Justice to approve that to say they are eligible to apply for a green card)
For work permit $180.00
Adjustment of status $325.00 form I-485 which adjusts their status to legal alien with a "green card" number
$830-$1000 because I don't remember who much the cost is for the fingerprinting fee.
However the above figures will change as of 7/30/07,
the application fees will triple so..

$ 340 work permit
$1,010- I -485
total $2,360-$2,450

I had a paralegal prepare mine and with the medical, shots and her fees along with filing fees, about $3500
The cost is too high for American Citizens and not high enough if you are already in this country, haven't given up your citizenship where you came from, don't know all the costs involved with a Permanent Resident card, but you can still get to a computer to type in a grammatically challenged sentence fragment like,..cost for green card?
