Do the proposed immigration laws really look that bad?
Illegal immigrants could seek a "Z visa" and get on track toward permanent residency after paying fees and fines. Heads of households would have to return to their home countries first.
Guest workers would have to return to their home country after periods of two years. They could renew their visas twice, but would be required to leave for a year in between each time.
They're not getting citizenship. They have to pay a $5000 fine. They have to go through a criminal background check.
They're only being issued visas with the intention that they start taking the necessary steps to become legal via naturalization just like any other immigrant.
This doesn't look bad at all to me given the situation and problem they have to deal with.
Answer:
To your point, the $5,000 fine should be a high enough economic wall to keep the parasitic ones out of line. Still, I'm concerned that organizations like La Raza will bully their... "benefactors" into... "contributing" to offset these fees. My big opposition at this point is on principle. There's funding for a wall between us and Mexico, of which less than two percent has been built. Enforce the laws that are presently on the books, then let's talk about more laws. Selective enforcement is my concern.
I agree. I think it's a decent compromise solution.
I see this as a viable solution to an out of control problem. If not this then what more of what we have now? At least it is an attempt to get things under control. I am all for it. -k-
The problem is, if they couldn't afford the fees in the first place, if they didn't go through legal channels the first time, why would they now? The bill is stating that they would have to come forward voluntarily - do you really think the majority is going to do this? All this bill is doing is making it more complicated. It sounds good on paper, but in practice, I think it would flop. We can't enforce what we have now - how in the world are we going to enforce a much more complicated system?
I think it has some good points. The thing is ...with the bush economy so freaking powerful and with so much money around everywhere...we basically need as many workers as we can get.of course abolishing welfare might be a better answer but the dems would never go for that and lose their voting base
But still.
This is simply unfair for any US resident who has gone through the true leagal routine to become a US citizen. Where is the justice in it all. The $5000 will not cover how much these workers have taken from our economy, the losses that the average citizen has consumed via taxes. Yes taxes, that wonderful thing that, next to death, is the only thing guranteed. But yet, these illegals have not had the chance to partake on this. This is unfair, unjust, and wrong.
I think it is a good idea and much needed solution to a problem we've had too long. What I'd love to be able to convince people on here who seem to think that deportation is the only way to deal with illegals is, why would the government even be entertaining these ideas if they weren't necessary? People just don't seem to realize what this is ultimately all about.
Oh please.and they are already telling you they will Not comply! How is that better? Get real. When you find yourself in a Unification package don't say you were not warned that is included too. There will be no more US Constitution, by close of business today!.
Next time you catch someone in your house with their pockets filled with your possessions invite them to stay for breakfast. Would you really do that?
Answer: YES it is bad! And it IS Amnesty!
There are enough immigration laws on the books to address every situation conceivable...The problem is the lack of will...
To Enforce Them!
These Invaders violate anothers' country by "sneaking in", half hiding while stealing resources and social services...
Then have the gall to demonstrate and demand that to which they should not be entitled, and were to cowardly to demand for themselves and their fellow countrymen in the land of their birth.
Their entire premise is dishonest and cowardly, invade hide and steal on one hand, then demand amnesty and unearned privilege on the other.
Now, do you REALLY think they will start working toward naturalization, or do you think they will just get their Z-visas and forget the rest of the process.
The only way the compromise given would be acceptable is if:
1. They are denied ALL services like welfare and social security
2. They are on a LIFETIME "probation", and if they commit ONE crime, they are permanently sent back to their home country.
3. None of their children born in this country become citizens.
If all of the above are in the compromise, I may be OK with it.
It is still rewarding them for breaking our laws.
We spend quite a bit of money trying to keep out illegal immigrants, then say that if they pay $5000 and meet some other requirements we'll make them citizens.
We are allowing them to become citizens despite them obviously having no respect for our laws. I admit that we need major immigration reform, but the answer to that is not a slap on the wrist following by giving in to their demands.
The whole thing is merely the gov't trying not to acknowledge that theyre powerless. They cant stop illegal immigation because they wont do it properly. Instead of attempting and risking failure, they give a very mild punishment so that it looks like they actually are trying to stop it; then they reward the illegal activities.
The only way they can ever stop it is the punish the companies that hire the illegals-they wont do that because these are the same companies that get them elected and pay their bribes. This is a great compromise for them, because it looks like they punished people, it looks like they care about the illegals, and most importantly the business that they truly care about are not mentioned or attacked, so they come off squeaky clean.
Makes me want to puke. What are we showing them, they march, we cave, they march, we cave, what are they going to be crying for next?
Will Americans be given the $5000 buy out for their criminal conduct along with theft of tax payer services, and financial burden placed upon society?
Illegals have burdened the American tax payer directly and the tax evasion by employers has been a high source of lost revenue that Americans are held to pay. The COST of that exceeds the $5000 fine by a long way.
This bill will serve only to legalize criminals that will join the legal work force.
There is NONE, absolutely NO incentive to correct the hiring of illegals and the tax evasion by employers & illegal. It will continue because USA has taxed legitimate employment in this country to death. The "legal" workers won't be able to compete with the illegals now any better than they have since reagan pardoned the last batch.
We can't afford to take PROPER care of our Military Veterans past, present and FUTURE. Amnesty to illegals is a slap in their face!
Where is the money going to come from to pay for all the benefits bestowed upon criminals that broke our laws, invaded our country and fleeced law abiding citizens?
Repeating past mistakes and expecting a different outcome is absolutely crazy. So is the over all cost and consequence of current considerations.
Are we in FACT a nation of laws and equal in the eyes of the law & justice?
Those that pass the laws seem to be above the law.
Those that can afford justice seem to be the ones that get it!
Yes, it does look that bad...It is riddled with pro North American Union statements through out the legislation...it even goes so far to start forming a PARLIAMENT consisting of Mexican, USA and Canadian people who would SUPERSEDE the SUPREME COURT IN THE USA!?!
Can you say no more USA Constitution! Because that is where we are heading.
Amnesty isn't a deal killer to me, I understand the situation. However, I think it has to be accompanied by strict screening (there would be initial legalization in the proposed program with no screening at all until the triggers were met and then... well we all know about immigration backlog) and protection regarding numbers, given the burden on our schools and services. That includes getting a true handle on the problem going forward. Even with triggers met, this doesn't. In fact it nowhere mentions the visa exit tracking system long since due under already enacted legislation that Homeland Security asked for another extension of saying it isn't 'cost effective'. Yet they put in 600,000 new temporary visas on top of current legal immigration AND legalization of illegals, with family immigration rights, WITHOUT addressing the issue going forward. And 1.4 million agricultural green cards on top of that.
We don't need MORE, we need relief. I take it you don't have kids in a school district like LAUSD, and haven't watched them throw billions at the problem with no hope of solution because the incoming stream is just too many, too poor, too fast and without English or parental education. This is truly HURTING our children, and we need a solution for US before - or at least along with - finding one for those who did, after all, break the law to take what wasn't thiers to begin with.
