Will America remain American--with roots, culture, and language reaching back to Anglo Saxon Europe?

When millions of legal Mexican Americans and illegal Mexican immigrants want to be and remain Mexican? As millions of Mexican Americans straddle and easily transit two countries joined by contiguous borders, there is simply no overarching necessity to become American when they can remain Mexican. The Mexican government itself, long engaged in irredentism, has leveraged its hold on Mexicans in undermining their allegiance to the United States by granting dual citizenship to all Mexican Americans, whether naturalized or American born citizens of Mexican ancestry. Many Mexicans may like America, work in it, pay taxes, and serve in its armed forces, but they will just as stubbornly adhere to their native language and culture. Mexican Americans typically don’t think of themselves as denying allegiance to America because they don’t think of themselves as an American in its cultural sense but as American in its Latin American sense. Mexicans are Mexicanos, Chicanos, Latinos, Hispanics or, finally, Mexican-American, but seldom simply American. To be an American is to be White, a Gringo--a derogation no self-respecting Mexican will abide.

This question is amusing to me because America is best known as a "melting pot" since the Ellis Island days. I think many who post here don't have any idea of the history of the country in which they live. Ignorance is not bliss.

I hate to burst your bubble but we Anglo Americans are rapidly becoming a minority in our own country! Within the next twenty or so years, you are going to see some very gradual changes in this country. You will hardly notice them but they are coming! In less than a century this will not be the America we know today! If you want to keep this country as we now know it; we had all better get busy. We have now reached the three billion mark due to immigration. White Americans have fewer children so we are becoming the minority. Clamp down on immigration & send the illegals home, now!
The real Americans did not immigrate from Europe as you did obviously. There were many native indigenous languages, around 300 plus and still being used. Get over your self.

Umm...have you ever heard of Native Americans? They are the "original" Americans when you get right down to it. And they're not white, my friend. But anyway, who cares? To be American is many things--it is to be black, Chinese, Italian, Polish, Irish, Pakistani, Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, or atheist. And anyway, what exactly is so threatening about Mexican people? If you are so proud of your Anglo Saxon roots and speak the language that your ancestors spoke, why can't new immigrants to this country retain their mother tongue and pride in their heritage? I grew up in towns where all the "hard-core Americans" still talked about their Italian or Irish backgrounds. America is America because of all the different people that made it what it is. If culture refuses to change and adapt with time it becomes stagnant and dies.

So basically- by disregarding the essence of how culture and language evolves over time by just the nature of the question, your use of the word Anglo-Saxon and the need to maintain it is no different than you calling yourself a Gringo from the get-go. You just placed yourself in a box and did injustice to the very roots your supposably trying to defend!
