Why do people quote the Constitution?
Answer:
That was an amazingly ignorant rant. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. Nothing can be done that runs counter to the Constitution. It is as relavent today as it ever was.
It has been modified when deemed necessary.
Because it is still the supreme law of the land. And that is sufficient. It can be changed, and has been.
elastic clause my good friend. the elastic clause.
Are you a religious man?
If not, point well taken. If so, your a hypocrite.
The Constitution is a brilliantly written document and is the supreme law of the land. To understand the supreme law is to understand what our country is supposed to be all about. What applied 200 years ago applies today as the document is very general in its articles and amendments.
It is the foundation of our freedom and is one hell of an important document. If you do not see the use or relevance of it then you need to read it again.
yea... its just a piece of paper.. like the president said...
The constitution is the law of the land, that's why people quote from it. If you don't like it, leave. Basic math?
Constitution, Bill of Rights is what make America special!!

Because the United States of America was founded on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It's not any single persons right to change it, including our president.
If you're advocating rewriting the documents, then that's a fine idea to try and sell. But, to do it means all 50 states will need to ratify it to make it so. Until such a time, there is no agreement on something new and we must abide by the laws of the land. the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
If you change it, do it by Constitutional means. I refer to the Constitution as the bedrock principles of American law and government. It defends us against domestic and foreign enemies.
I happen to prefer having the liberty of basic civil rights and much as Bush's people prefer, habeas corpus as well.
A totalitarian dictator might find the Constitution " quaint " . I don't.
I hate to break it to you, but "Give me your tired..." is NOT anywhere in the Constitution. It's a poem on the Statue of Liberty. (That's not going to help your argument.) Further, the constitution provides ways for changing it. Changing the voting age to 18 was, I think, the last change or amendment.
Now to the gist of the question. If we are able to change it, as we are, than the constitution has evolved in some way with the country as time moved on. Therefore, it IS relevant to today. That's how the founding fathers set it up to be. Most of it written over 200 years ago deals with things that needed to be addressed and STILL need to be addressed. Though I think liberals take the notion of the constitution as a "living document" a bit too far, it is still relevant today.
I'm not sure if you just emerged from your cave or just havn;t heard of "constitutional amendments", which is the legal way to change what was written many years ago. It is the law of the land, and a very well thought out and printed document, regardless of your personal opinion.
'give me your tired' is from a poem written by E. Lazerus, a poetess who won a contest when they were erecting the Statue of Liberty. It is on the base. It did not say 'give me your lawbreakers' in any event, and was never legislative action.
I think the Supreme Court interpreted the 14th Amendment wrong in stretching it to cover children of those illegally here, if they are 'under jurisdiction of our laws' who isn't? However, since my appointment to the Supreme Court hasn't come through, I just think automatic birthright citizenship is something we should abolish going forward, just as have every single EU country and Canada.
However, I have much greater respect for the Constitution than you seem to do.
Your ignorance is surpassed only by your naivete...and trying to explain something as timeless and universally relevant as the United States Constitution to someone of your ilk is useless.
The document your publicly deriding is the very thing that ensures you the ability to deride it publicly without fear of imprisonment, torture or even death.
Your short-sightedness is truly astonishing!
Is the Constitution perfect - NO. It is better than anything else I've seen. The 14th adment has been expanded by a court ruling. If any state would make a law challenging that interpretation the Surpreme Court would have to revisit the ruling. Maybe they should have pushed Prop 187 harder.
As for your refferance to muskets, Check out the # of weapons per capida that Switzerland has & their crime rate. Maybe you will stop preaching gun control & start preaching gun ownership!
Gee.law of the land. What our countries ideals are. Everything our country is based on. It's weathered the test of time all these years. We make ammendments as needed...not just to satisfy law breakers at one specific time. Remember ... we did it before..didn't work. Give me your tired.isn't in the constitution. The more things change the more they stay the same. If it didn't work and wasn't a valid document...how did we do so well all this time?
This country started biting the dust when they've veered from those words of wisdom. I'm more amazed as time goes on and things change that they are very relevent words...probably more-so now than ever before. They've taken and twisted things to such bizzare extreems it doesn't hold the true meaning anymore.
we can change it, but most of it still applies today. If you have ever read the constitution then you would know that most of what it says is very generic in regards to time. However, we have changed it about 20 times, that is what amendments are.
Personally I believe in the Constitution. Yes it was written over 200yrs.ago its the basis that this republic was establish. We have elections for people to represent us locally, state, federal. Its not the best but its what we have and until you and your friends sit down and write another one and we go Thur the steps to make it law I,ll live with this one. God Bless America
The U.S. Constitution was written to limit the power of the government, and set guide lines that future government officials would have to follow.
Many people quote parts of the Constitution that they don't understand or will take things out of context to suit their agenda.
Also many people get the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence mixed up. These Documents were each written for their own individual purpose and should be read as separate documents.
The Constitution is still and will always be the document that decides weather the actions of the government are right or wrong.
The Constitution is the rule book for the federal government if you sit down and read through it you will see that it is all very important and is what keeps our government from becoming chaos. Every thing that was written way back then still holds true today, the vocabulary may seem odd today but the meaning is timeless
I <3 the Constitution. No matter how long ago it was written, it was designed to stand the test of time. And the 14th amendment is one of the greatest pieces of text ever written.
It represents the laws of our land.Throw it out as you suggest and there will be no America.
