Because the press breaks a story like the latest one about how some idiot (who WAS deported) was drunk and killed someone and people decide to have a "knee-jerk" reaction and decide what that one idiot did speaks for 12,000,000 people. Interestingly, with issues like gun-control they accuse US of the very same "knee-jerk" reaction that is OK here. Next time a 40 year old man kills somebody, let's deport ALL the 40 year old men. Makes as much sense, right?
And because it's easier to point the finger of accusation at a group of people and blame them for ALL our problems, rather than doing the hard work of fixing them.

That's the problem, you can't pick and choose what is right and what is wrong. They broke the law, they pay the price. You don't have to go past a stop sign, you don't have to speed. People do those things because they don't care about the law and the people around them.
Example: Oh, a person just stabbed another person but they didn't kill them. Let's not consider them a murderer or a criminal even though they didn't commit a crime.

Last year, in Mississippi, the illegal aliens cost the state medical system $25 million. That's twenty-five million dollars for a poor state still having problems recovering from Hurricane Katrina for it's tax paying citizens. I know. I live in Mississippi.

Illegal immigrants are criminals because they (like you said) broke the law. That in itself is a CRIME. Secondly, people are not only pissed at the fact that they barged over here illegally, but the fact that they are benefiting from our federal money and taxes when they don't even pay them themselves. Also, they are taking up some jobs that even Americans are wanting. And another thing, many of the illegal immigrants ARE criminals from their own country..meaning, many were criminals before coming to the US. Recently someone in my city got hit and killed in a car accident by an illegal immigrant and you know what he did? He fled the scene. So think about the other reasons people are against illegals before stating all that nonsense...
Because, there is a legal process you have to go through to earn the right to be called an American. People are not going over seas fighting to the death for illigal immigrants!
Illegal means exactly illegal, no matter how you look at it. There has to be accountability for the public's personal safety. I hate when illegals come over just to steal cars and drive them back over to have them stripped.

I think you have answered your own question. The term "illegal" gives the impression of criminal, thus they are bad. Although I tend to think that there is a form of racism at work as well. What I mean is that if we were to drop the "illegal" and just refer to immigrants as "immigrants", I think that at some point even that word would come to mean something bad.
Unfortunately I think it is just a sad sad statement on people's thinking nowadays.

America is only concerning themself because if this continues, poverty would increase, possibly tax, unemployment rate increase, social security issues, population crisis, many things . Many things, US have strict rules and supposely immigrants shudhv acknowlegde that. If u look at it metaphorically. U dont want a stranger just crossing in ur own house and stealing ur job. I have sympathy for the immigrants too, i was lucky enough to immigrate here legally. But america is america....
Everyone is not perfect. I am a legal immigrant, and I personally thought Americans hating illegals are stingy, but I now realize that it is necessary to establish certain degree of law to maintain this country like America. There would be too many problems and instablility if this country is just free for everyone. To protect every legal's freedom some degree of control is needed.

Traffic infractions are NOT normally crimes. Stealing someone's identity is. Sneaking across the border is a crime.

I don't really consider them criminals; however, they are here illegally. If they want to come to the US to live a better life, then they should do it legally, and become naturalized citizens, or get a green card. Some people say that they are taking our jobs, which I guess they are in a way, but a lot of the jobs they take are jobs that people don't want to do. They also have an advantage, in a way, because they will work for lower wages than a lot of US citizens. Also, they don't pay taxes. If you live here, and work here you should be paying taxes; I mean we do, so why shouldn't they.
Okay! I am going to assume that you were not an immigrant! Do you understand the process and the years that you have to wiat in order to become a legal immigrant to come to America? Illegal immigrants just come into this country! They take away jobs from the legal immigrants because they are illegal and they are welling to accept a lower wage causing people who are legal immigrants to be jobless and unable to provide for their family. Don't blame me for feeling so strongly about my opinions, I have formed my opinions because my parents were immigrants and its was extremely hard for them to find a job when they legally came to America because most of the places were hiring the illegals.
Forgetting for the moment that a disproportionate percentage of the people who come illegally are also otherwise criminal, even for those who aren't the damage is not a one time thing when they cross the border. Schools are drained $10,000 per child per year, and 'free' food stamps for children are not 'free', we pay for them.
On top of that, if I went over the speed limit and an officer stopped me, it would not occur to me that he shouldn't give me the ticket. I expect to pay the price on the books for any law I break. Illegals knew what the penalty was for coming illegally, when they came. They are not victims, we are.
People think all kinds of bad things about people who are not like them. I grew up in CA and there are lots of illegal immigrants there. And coincidentlely the crime rate was extremely high.I was treated very badly most of my childhood becasue I was white and therefore different. I was the minority. I was beaten up, my life was threatened ,and I ranaway from school on several occasions because it was so bad. If you want to know how bad it can get go to an area where you are a minority and see what happens. I am not racist! I think all kinds of people behave poorly in certain circumstances.

Illegal immigrants take from us ( Our Taxes we pay ). They use the parks which are hard to go to now because they are crowded with immigrants and people that are residents can't uses them. They use the hospitals and they do not pay which in turn hospitals close down due to lack of funds. They drive on the highways and city streets we paid for through taxes. They cause accidents and have no insurance. They cause grid lock on the freeways. They use welfare from the many children they have and benefit from it. The jails are now over 50% immigrants. They stand at the corners looking for work. They pay NO TAXES... They send most of their money to Mexico and do not put back into our economy. They are a drain on our country
Good question! Let's take a step back and consider what illegal means.
The whole construction of "immigration" is what characterises people as as illegal. For example, first class passengers get seen by immigration first, and most developed countries have education, skills or financial requirements to consider people for legal immigration. So legal or illegal is a definition produced by the state, and the state itself criminalises people. This is not "natural" or "obvious" as some of the posters here seem to suggest. Many US citizens move to Mexico or Canada, but the US wants to control traffic coming the other way. It even wants to have free trade in the Americas, but not allow free immigration -- whereas within the European Union, there is something called the Schengen agreement which allows people to live and work in any European Union country.
It is not true that most illegal immigrants are criminals in their own country. What is true is that media and politicians like scapegoats, and therefore they choose to focus on stories that make illegal immigrants look bad, to scare American voters. The minority of illegal immigrants commit crimes, just as the minority of legal Americans do.
In truth, without a vast, underpaid labour force that cannot unionise or agitate for better pay, America would cease to function.

Yes people have gotten traffic violations. We incur fine and insurance increase. That's the price we pay for traffic violations!! The price of being illegal is deportation. If you break a law there is a price to pay.
You need to read the paper. Check out the top most wanted in your state. There is a huge percentage of hard core criminals in the lot. Child molestation, rape, burglery, drug charges, gang violence, DUI, driving without a license, driving without insurance, spousal abuse, murder, child abuse.....and the list goes on. It's an everyday occurance around here and gets worse as time goes on. They by far have the worst crime rate by percentage than any other group.
