Good questions. I would vote for a candidate that would close the borders and give severe consequences to those that want to break immigrant laws. The illegal aliens have become a major drain on our economy and the increase of theft which is directly responsible from the increase of illegal aliens can NOT be ignored. Why is it that law enforcement shrugs their shoulders where illegal aliens are concerned, but citizens they throw the book at? It just gets me very angry.

it not the government, its the businesses. if these american corporations would stop hiring these illegals for cheap wages, they would have no reason to sneak in this country so bad. they want the american dream ., and they are the first one to get it, even before people born and raised in the usa.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hardworking and honest, um, except for well, you know. And what a deal it is for me! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Just to let you all know, he has done a great job, have we been bombed, no, do you get paid, most likely yes, do you still live in a free country, yes. The sad truth is that the government is doing plenty by not doing anything.
Consider you are a dirt poor laborer in Mexico - your neighbor "migrates" north into the U.S. Soon his family is receiving U.S. dollars each week to the tune of what takes you a couple of months to earn. This continues for awhile and soon a couple more of your neighbors head north for the employment - they are not sent back nor are they apparently punished in any way because the money keeps coming. As you can well imagine, soon you won't have any poor neighbors - and this cash cow up north starts looking pretty damned good. The news is free medical care, free public education and, pretty soon, you can add SS benefits and a VISA card to those perks.
For what it's worth, this money being sent into Mexico is the countries largest economic venture - imagine, money coming in and no products going out. Talk about low overhead!
And where was this issue during the most recent campaigns? Hidden under the cloak of Iraq war, terrorism, global warming and other issues. It seems the politicians don't even want to talk about this invasion - let alone enforce the laws that are already on the books.
"Doing jobs Americans won't do?" I have to agree with that since these jobs are already filled by employers paying slave wages and no benefits to the illegal aliens!
I'm with you - either make them tax paying citizens or arrest them or effectively nail their employers or just deport them or open the borders - but DO SOMETHING ! This is getting ridiculous.
No-cheap labor means more corporate profits. Either ship the job oversees or find immigrants here who will skirt our labor laws.

People talk about the "drain on the economy". What drain? If there was really a drain, this wouldn't be an issue. Someone whose self interest was at risk would have fixed it by now if it were.
They buy goods while they're here, pay taxes. And this might sound slightly Machiavellian, one can't even begin to add up what we save in cheap labor.
