Nobody can answer your question. It's literally up to the guy at the US border. A lot depends on how long you've been in the USA already. If you've been here for months, and your stay is about to expire, they'll assume you're just trying to reset the clock on your visa and stay months more. You'll feel pretty dumb stuck in Mexico if that's the case.
Australian citizens don't need visa to enter Mexico as a tourist.You have 30 days to exit the country.
