What are the rules for an American Citizen wanting to marry in Egypt?

Is it better to just do the fiance visa or is the spouse visa better? How much time are we looking at here? Can we marry religiously but not legally? Thanks.

Answer:
You want the wedding to happen in Egypt? If you want the wedding to happen in Egypt, you won't be able to apply for the fiance visa. You'll have to wait till after the wedding, then file the I-130 after the American citizen has returned to the US.
If you don't mind marrying in the states, then you can apply for the fiance visa (I-129f) in advance and then marry after that is approved and the fiance arrives in the states. I am not particularly familiar with the I-129f route as my husband and I got married and then just filed the I-130.
The I-130 isn't a visa so much as it is the first step of immigration. My husbands was approved after a couple months, but, he couldn't move to the states until we also completed the 'affidavit of support' (Form I-865) which shows that I had the income to prevent him from becoming a public charge. We also filed with the department of homeland security for his greencard. It took us 2 years due to some paperwork glitches. But, many people complete it in more the 6-9 month range. Take lots of pictures at the wedding and make sure your relationship is well documented.
