How does the immigrant visa process work (in France)?

About 6 months ago I moved to France and married a French national. But unfortunately several months ago my husband lost his job and he hasn't been able to find another one (it happens). We've now decided to move to United States since I would have prefered to continue my higher education in the states and we feel there would be more job opportunities for him there as well. I've done a little bit of research and realized that he has to apply for an immigrant visa before we can move to United States. I was wondering then if anyone is familiar with the immigrant visa process in France and if they could give us some general advice? I'm a little worried since we don't have that much money right now (I'm a student and he's unemployed). We're basically living off my miserly salary, the little savings that we have and our parents' help. Would that have a strong effect on our application? And also generally how long does the whole process take?
Thank you for all of your advice!

Answer:
Oh dear ! I don't think there's worst thing on Earth than the French administration...

Here is a link where you can find the different visa needed for different scenario, it's in French but I'm sure you'll manage:

Best of luck.
You file a I-130(Petition for alien relative) form for your husband. Then you wait for your petition to be accepted and declined. It will be faster filing for your husband then filing for a brother or sister cause your husband doesnt have to wait for an immigrant visa to become availible. To get this form go to uscis.gov and search I-130. As for your financial state, there is a form that you have to file after your case has been excepted showing that you can support him 125% over the national poverty level. Again for more information go to uscis.gov. Hope this Helps.
