Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907?
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
Answer:
Should still hold true today!
Is that a question or a statement?
When someone immigrants here you have to assume he wants to be here?
"Every facet an American, and nothing but an American."
Cool quote. Thanks for brining that up.
God bless America!
I am proud to be an American. It should hold true today but some people seem to hate this nation even tho they live off its bounty.
This should be held in standard today, every "new" american I meet save those from ONE country will try very hard to speak English.
Roosevelt was a myopic idiot!!!!!!
the best part of being an american is the freedom that is afforded to me...... and with that freedom i can assimilate or not as much as i please, i can speak any damn language i wish, and most importantly i can say how stupid and outdated Roosevelt's thinking was!!!!!!!!
Teddy would roll over in his grave if he could see what the liberal, politically correct elite are trying to do to this country. Teddy was a very smart man as opposed to poster above who thinks he is so modern. Stupid but "modern.".
Too bad we don't have someone like Teddy today. Teddy would solve the immigration problem in about two minutes. He wouldn't need a comprehensive plan to somehow try and dupe the American people into beleiving that "path to citizenship" was something other than amnesty. He certainly would not allow sanctuary cities and with his "speak softly and carry a big stick" policy he would be telling Mexico to stop meddling in US affairs.
ok in regards to what Teddy believed I agree up to the part of everyone should learn English but as far as just knowing that language is a little bit idiotic. and what exactly determines how "american" a person is? I mean is there a checklist that is out there that determine if your American. and last but not least in regards to someone who says they are american and something else does that mean that people who claim are African-american, Asian-American or Mexican-American is a traitor to this country? It all seems kind of out of date and old fashion talk.
i agree with nexus america is the melding part america doesn't have an official language so why only speak one? Does that mean being american means abandoning your culture and who you are? I don't think i agree with that.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin
I kind of lost him right about their
He was spot on. I am a Scottish immigrant (legal, I might add). I have no intention of abandoning my heritage but of course I have assimilated into US culture. I don't agree with some of it, but I chose to live here so I get on with it.
Quite simple really. He was a fine President.
