When you hear the words 'illegal immigration' do you usually think of Hispanics?
ANYBODY can be an illegal immigrant regardless of their ethnicity. But I've noticed some ppl are generalizing and are putting illegals and Hispanics into one category, as if Hispanic=illegal, illegal=Hispanic.
Now I'm not saying everybody is like this, only SOME.
What do you think?

Seriously, I do think of Hispanics because that group makes up the majority of illegal aliens. I know that other illegal immigrants exist, but probably everyone's mind thinks of Hispanics first because they do make up the larger population, and had easier access to the US than others.

It is not racist, it is a "generalization" And being from the U.S. it is a very safe generalization since 95% of illegal immigrants in our country are Hispanic.
When I think of illegal immigrants, I think of anyone coming to this country illegally. Non-American. Either way is all nationalities. But you are right most ppl do think Hispanic.
Actually in the area of the country that I am in Hispanics are not the largest group, not yet, but they will be shortly and it is growing astronomically annually.
I wish people would not mention a nationality because it is used by the other side to make you look racist, even if you are not. I want our borders closed to all but legal traffic and those who overstay located and held responsible. I do not care what your nationality, many of those in my city simply overstay their visa and blend into our people.

No because I am one of the few intelligent ones who actually know that illegal immigrations is from all over the world. There is a huge illegal Asian population in California that no one wants to talk about. Many racists just want to hate on Mexicans.
To be honest yes I do. I would surmise this is due to the location I live and the proximity I am to the Southern border. You are correct anyone can be an illegal alien. I would think if I lived much farther away from the Southern border my thoughts would change when I hear illegal alien. If I lived in Miami I would think my first thought about illegal aliens would be Cubans. If I lived on a Northern border state my first thought would be Canadians. Etc.
stereotype exists for a reason. Call it a generalization. As human we learn to generalize things. Evolutionarily speaking, generalization is an adaptive measure.
The hispanic/mexican account for majority of the illegal immigration, hence the generalization.
The vast majority of illegals are "Hispanic," or more correctly, Latino, so there's a tendency to generalize. You'll find stereotyping on both sides of the issue.
The pro-illegals tend to stereotype us anti-illegals as racists. I sometimes think they're ready to give their country away to colonists from Mexico just to show everybody they're not racists, and they wouldn't be so worried about it if deep down, they weren't.
I do actually,but not because of racism,you can believe that or not I really don't care. But I did not see 100,000 illegal Polish Immigrants marching in the streets,burning American flags,demanding rights that they have no business asking for when they broke the law. I didn't see the Dallas School board demand that teachers learn Russian within a certain time frame in order to be able to speak to Illegal Immigrant Russian parents,or face the possibility of losing their jobs. And I did not see a town in TX make Bulgarian their official language in order to better serve their largely Bulgarian Illegal Immigrant population. However I did see all of this occur under the banner of the Mexican flag,nuff said!

I agree with you. It seems most people on here when reading the word "illegal" assumes its a Hispanic.
Why they do that I have no idea. Probably cuz most of those that arent Hispanic and illegal came thru Mexico so its just easier to lump it.? I mean its not like we get immigration thru Canada right? Our only border country is Mexico! (sarcasm)
I dont assume "illegal" means hispanic. I assume it means you could be of any origin and possibly overstayed your visa and now your "illegal"..english, french, german, japanese...etc...

Of course everyone knows that Mexicans are not the only illegal immigrants in the US, but they are the majority! Therefore the answer to your question is Yes!
No I don't think of Hispanics. I think of Mexicans because we all know who is coming in illegally. The other Hispanics, are doing it the right way.
I don't equate Hispanic and Illegal. While Hispanics make up the majority, there are many other nationalities that are coming in illegally. It's just closer and easier for Hispanics. Where I live there is a big population of Asian Illegals (the Ports don't check EVERY container).
I also consider the people who have stayed beyond the alloted time of their visa to be illegals - that includes Europeans too. So for me, it's not a racial issue it's a legal issue.
Ask you self, what Flags did you see at the Rallies, Mexico,
and What Else ? I,m not sure, but I didn't see Many Chinese
Flags, or Nigerian Flags.
I will answer honestly and say when I hear the word illegal I think Mexican. The only reason is because they are the majority of people illegally crossing our border. That's not racist it's just a well known fact. I do recognize that they aren't the only ones,there are other people here illegally as well and I feel the same about them,deport. I am Irish and as much kinship and love as I feel for the Irish people,they also need to go home if they are here illegally.

Other illegals aren't protesting in the streets for rights they are not entitled to claim. In fact, political protesting is a right reserved for citizens only in the USA. When you attempt to draw attention to yourself, you must take the negative reactions along with the ones you hoped to incite.
BTW, Hispanic is a term that Spain has claimed for itself for a very long time. It is offensive to citizens of Spain to use the term for others.
You're right, there are other nationalitites here that are illegal.
BUT it is the illegals from mexico who are the MAJORITY of illegals in this country!
It is the illegals from mexico who are marching in OUR streets and demanding that we give in to them!! NOT the other illegal nationalities!
It is the illegals from mexico that are carrying the MEXICAN flag, while marching in our streets and demanding freebies! NOT people from other countrys!

Where I live there have been various people from various backgrounds including people who have got through the Border towns of Texas from Al queda.
I fear that more and more do, because anytime the issue comes up people accuse those of wanting to police our borders of being "anti-Hispanic."
Also, many, many Mexican (not American) flags were flown at the massive illegal rallies last yesr. One could even see a few signs saying that the southwest US belonged to Mexico.
It is the advocates of the illegals who are creating this association in people's minds. I fear there will be a major backlash.

Because that is all is see on here. They say, Mexican=illegal, illegal=Mexican
But it's good you didn't, people will verbally attack you if you defend them . I was, I am American of Mexican desent. I only defended Mexicans from people who discriminated against them, and i was told to go back to Mexico if I "really love it so much." They don't understand.
Almost all you anti-illegals just don't understand a single thing about the Mexican people. Maybe some of you do, and you use that to your advantage.
