Do you think that Spanish as a second language for whites will soon be a requirement??
Answer:
I think learning Spanish should be encouraged, as most Europeans know 2-3 languages, and it would only help communicate in our increasingly diversified world.
However, before there is talk of making it a requirement, English should be a requirement of anyone who chooses to live here.
I wouldn't move to another country and expect them to cater to me and speak my language, so it's not an unrealistic expectation of those wanting to emmigrate here.
I think you should re-phrase it as 2nd language for English speakers...not Whites
No.
requirement?? LOL thats funny, we are English speaking and always will be. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN
No, that will not happen. I think that we need to be more globally diverse than that. We need to encourage our children to speak Chinese and other languages so that we can compete in the global market! It's true that Spanish is becoming more and more prevalant; but that's not where the market is!
If it does, I will move back to Canada!
Not in Canada. (ugh, interesting wording, by the way)
Nope, our official language is english. If they want to be AMERICANS (not "Mexican-Americans") they can adjust to our rules/customs or take their happy-azzes right back where they came from. We don't owe them anything...
The "English as a Second Language" is popular these days for all non-English speakers. That will probably continue to increase while promoting willing English speakers to learn Spanish if they want. The hispanic population is under 15%.
Glitterbabeprincess: You are acting like a racist and you are not doing anyone any good with each question you answer...it is one thing to be "proud to be a mexican." Fine, but we really don't care. Get over yourself, because people will be less accepting of you and it is not because of your race it will be because of your horrible attitude!
YEs but that's already true in many places. In the real world you have to have one of the following: someone hook you up with a job (that's number 1), brawn, a college education, youth and looks, or be bilingual and multifunctional. I mean it used to be a woman who couldn't or wouldn't do fast food, cashiering or waitressing could get a job as a receptionist, using the phone, typing or whatever. These were all separate jobs. Now you have to do all of it because several jobs are combined and you have to speak either an Asian language or a Latin language. There's no soon or maybe about it. It's just that women's unemployment is not counted the same as men's. We've lost most of our housekeeping, restaurant and similar jobs and trying to get an office job is a joke. I don't know anyone, man or woman, who got a job by just going to a service or filling out applications. That method quit working 10 years ago or more. You have to know someone and get hooked up or it will almost certainly go to an immigrant. Of course, my area is majority immigrant, so maybe yours isn't there yet?
It already is to a point, this is the ugly truth. their are as we speak for example school districts that have required Principals or Teachers to learn Spanish or risk losing their jobs as a result of non-compliance with that rule,Dallas Public Schools were one of them, although I think someone actually got that rule tossed out. However if the school board wanted it in the first place,do you not think that teachers who don't learn Spanish as they had wanted will face problems with advancement, rule or no rule? I think they will for certain. And we have at least one town in TX that has made Spanish the official language for their town business,so if you want to do business with that town I suppose if you only speak English you will be the one in need of an interpreter, not the Spanish speakers. Anyone that does not believe this is almost on par with an invasion is a naive fool, and deserves what they get.

We live in a small world. It isn't to anyone's benefit if we don't learn from eachother, Just because you learn the language doesn't mean you make it your own- it is a second language, and it is to your benefit to be able to communicate with more people. Learning a second language also expands your brain's ability to learn other things. In most countries, a decent education includes learning at least one language other than your first language. So I do hope that the U.S. catches up and starts teaching 2nd and 3rd languages in grade school.
What, you dont' think black people will be required to learn spanish? There are far too many ignorant, rednecks who are afraid if we start to learn another language or culture we will become just like them. So, no it will not happen. Besides, people should want to learn another language to broaden their horizons and become more self-actualized.
I think everyone should be required to learn a second language. That way, people can travel all over and not have to worry about language barriers.
I also think its great that in the bill it was a requirement to learn english. I am pro immigration but I have always said that those here need to learn the language. But its not just for "illegals" or those of spanish descent.I think its equally important for those of any culture...hmong, french, german etc..
What diseases are you referring to? And please tell me whats so wrong with learning a different culture? Learning about different people and cultures is what helps you grow and learn as a person. Are you denying your right for higher intelligence by being a close minded person?
No doubt. When I was in high school (class of '93) 2 years of foreign language was a requirement and unfortunately French and Spanish were the only available classes taught.
Razor Jim.you are right. This pathetic racist posts like a million questions a day, all hateful towards Hispanics. He has nothing intelligent to say, just spitting out hate. A Mexican must have stolen his girlfriend or something.
Not unless I move to a spanish speaking country. Thats the correct thing to do. You go to a different country to live you should learn that country's language not demand the citizens learn yours.
I am just repeating what King Charles the Fifth said once. He was a polyglot. Italian was created to speak about opera. French to speak about love. Spanish to speak to God. English to speak to the snakes. I think any language is good to be learned. The more languages one knows. The more informed one can be.
