Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hardworking and honest (except for when I broke into your house). According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hardworking and honest, um, except for well, you know. And what a deal it is for me! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. I think people are against open borders because they fear it would decrease their potential for jobs. They are afraid that people who live in poorer countries will come here and work for less. I think people are also against open borders because the increase to our taxes. More people means more government spending. In the end, I think people are mainly concerned with their own financial secruity.
Race has nothing to do with it. People who come over here for perceived jobs is not the reality. We are allowing poverty stricken people who are uneducated and undocumented to live off Americans. Why would we want one neighbor who can not provide for its own people to be a part of an alliance in a disaster? Amnesty for criminals is wrong, point blank. Too many immigrants came to America legally and paid into our system. Illegal aliens did not.
Good neighbors are an asset, bad neighbors like Mexico, are a liability. Where was Mexico after Katrina struck? No, I don't mean all of the cheap illegal labor that was used to rebuild New Orleans, that's not what good neighbors do.

People work in a country and contribute by way of taxes to it's infrastructure and growth. The people who pay should be the ones who have the say, not the politicians - who are employees of the people, nor other countries - who covet what the country they want access to has, but are unwilling to meet the terms of the people who have built it.

1) Make an account of themselves - are you a criminal or wanted? Are you hard-working or shiftless and lazy?
2) Learn the majority language enough to communicate at work and shops.
3) Learn the customs and laws. I don't really care how it was done in your OLD country, this is how it's done here. Especially in the case of radical and fundamentalist adherents of political movements and/or religion.
If you don't like how we live - go somewhere else. Don't bother us with your morals and customs that have nothing to do with how this country was built and what benefits the citizens get as a result.

Yes, I believe that GOOD neighbors are definitely an asset. No, I don't believe that my "racial or national background" influences me in who I think should be allowed to stay here, other than the fact that as a US citizen, I believe I have a say in determining that only LEGAL immigrants should have a right to stay in this country. Yes, good neighbors help each other in times of disaster. However, good neighbors do NOT mooch off of each other, which is what I see illegal immigrants as doing.
My reasons for being against amnesty is because illegal immigrants should not be rewarded for having been able to evade the immigration authorities for 5 years or longer. Illegal immigrants should not be excused for having used fraudulent ID in order to remain in the country and work. Illegal immigrants should not be allowed to jump ahead in the line of legal immigrants who have paid the fees, waited patiently, and jumped through all the hoops to be able to come to this country legally. Illegal immigrants are a danger to our country because they are not screened for their criminal records and for communicable diseases. Illegal immigrants are a net drain on our economy because they take more than they give, economically. They use our social services without paying their fair share of taxes to pay for them. They overburden our schools without paying their fair share of taxes to pay for this service. They overburden our medical services by receiving medical care that they don't pay for. They devastate people's lives when they steal their ID. They devastate people's lives when they are involved in accidents and do not have valid drivers' licenses or insurance.
No, illegal immigrants are NOT good neighbors. No, the countries who encourage their citizens to come into our country illegally are NOT good neighbors.
The only GOOD immigrants are LEGAL immigrants.

if we gave amnesty to all and made our borders open to all, millions, maybe even into the billions would be coming here. perhaps that doesn't seem like a problem, but it is. financial issues, crime, almost anything terrible you could imagine would result. anarchy might be the ultimate consequence
