F-1 Student Visa?

If I have an F-1 student visa and am studying in the U.S. full-time. I got married with a U.S. citizen 5 months ago. Unfortunately, it didn't work out between us, so he isn't going to get me a green card. Can I still stay in the U.S. without going to school full-time while being married to him until we get divorced? What is the law?

Answer:
If you have submitted your application for permanent residency (green card), you can stay until you're called in for an interview and a decision is made.

Otherwise, you can stay as long as your F-1 is valid.
If you did not allow your F1 to expire and you remained in school full-time, your F1 is still valid and you can continue going to school. But marriage alone is not a basis for remaining in the US legally - the spouse must cooperate in the paperwork. If your spouse was abusive that may be another story.
