I am not sure, however I applied for the SEGS visa (Science, Engineering Graduate Scheme) and received a one year work visa. Other degrees fall under this scheme besides Science and Engineering, so its worth a check.
I don't think so. I think it has to be from the working visa i guess. But try. I can understand why people want to leave their country of origin ........There are some people that do not understand and yet make some bad comments on you.

No, unfortunately you have to stay more than 10 years straight, without expiring your visa in order to get the entitlement to apply for it. If you stay 14 years straight legally and illegally mixed, you can also get the entitlement.
If you are on work permit or HSMP, then you can apply for it after 4 years or 5 years, but if you are a student it has to be 10 years.
