How to live in USA / get a VISA without high school?
I dropped out of high school after grade 11 for a few different reasons that would take to long to explain. I started full time TAFE the following year because I didn't want to look bad on my resume. I received a certificate in tourism and then spent the next couple years travelling (to US and Europe). Then I looked into the green card lottery but saw you need 12 years of schooling or the equivalency so I completed a tertiary prep correspondance program in 2005 and then moved out of home and began working as a receptionist/ assistant which I've been doing for almost a year now.
Anyway my best frined lives in Los Angeles and it's my dream to live and work there one day. She is an aspiring musician and is about to launch and is considering hiring me as her PA so I can get a VISA and we can be together but I don't know where to begin or if this would even work??? Need advice :(
Answer:
Contact the US embassy located in your country and see if you can come in on a working visa. Unless you have family living in the US, then you can come in on another type of visa. Good Luck.
I'm sorry, but apparently your type is exactly the kind that Americans do not want to see in their country.
Are you Canadian? You don't say in you question, but you say "grade 11" and Canadians say that. Immigrating to the U.S. is not easy, unless you have a ton of money, or can prove that you can do a job that no American citizen could do and a company is willing to sponser you. Considering your education, this might be a tough route.
What most people do is simply marry a U.S. citizen. However, this is not always "simple" either. You could just come down on "vacation" and work under the table jobs, being a nanny, etc. Don't expect health insurance or Social Security benefits though.
Where there's a will, there's a way. If you dream of living in Los Angeles, chances are you will LOVE IT. People who want to live in L.A. always find a way. Most never regret it. I've lived here 8 years and am still totally obsessed with it. I love it. You will to. Everything is so plastic, it's awesome. Take a chance, it won't be easy though.
