Why not just admit that thay fear and hate anyone who talks, speaks and looks different from them, and that even though by being born white, they hava had an advantage from the day they were born, they are still stuggling because of their own ignorance, and they fear yet another group will make then even less able to compete ?
Don't you think they will feel better if they tell the truth about their fear and hate, instead of telling lies ?

Exactly ! It's funny how these racist, right-wing "shock jocks" on radio and on t.v. are celebrating that this bill didn't pass. But what are they celebrating about?? There are still millions of illegals here in the U.S. that are never going back.
These bigots just didn't want "Mexicans" getting any benefits since that's all they mentioned in their hate campaign, not the millions of illegal Asians, Arabs or Iranians. Also, if this bill did pass these racist right-wingers couldn't keep up their hate talk on the radio against Mexicans.they have to look for a new scapegoat that will fight back with lawsuits, and since they are basically cowards, they don't want that.

If they were to agree with you, then they would be lying. The truth is the cost involved with maintaining such a large illegal population in what most consider to be a welfare country. The fact is that most talk show hosts are far more successful than the lower wage illegals, who do not pay the same taxes. Also, the fact that legal citizens have a bigger chance of getting a speeding ticket than the illegals have of being deported makes many people angry. If you are legal, and decide not to pay the IRS, you will be prosecuted like you have never been, however, illegals demand amnesty from their back taxes. Good luck.

I think people who had racist tendencies felt that the Bush election and re-election was a validation of their beliefs and they mostly sputtered what they thought for all to hear in the first term.
The immigration debate is a red herring. Americans should focus on the biggest problems: economy and dead american servicemen.

My hispanic friends cannot get tourist visas for their relatives to come and visit because there are so many illegal Hispanics in the USA that it is feared that they will not leave at the end of the visit. That annoys me.

I think there's a clause in their "Contract With America" (Remember that?) that prohibits them from being candid , let alone honest.
I would not paint the anti-immigration crowd with such a broad brush. Some actually believe this is a law and order issue, but subconsciously I suspect a lot of this xenophobia is culturally driven. This subconscious rational is not designed to target a specific ethnic group, but a general anti-foreigner feeling that is sweeping significant segments of the population.
The bigger problem I find with the debate is the fact that few on the anti-immigration side have done a true cost benefit analysis of the situation. Yes some might abuse our social services, but how does this compare to the economic contribution of immigrants? Why do we have a domestic labor shortage? Nobody seems to want to talk about these questions is the problem.

It is never good for a nation to be overrun by millions of people who refuse to change their lifestyle and adapt to the country that they are moving to. Vast uncontrolled immigration influxes are a typical indicator that a nation's infrastructure and legal system is weakening, and it is often a sign pointing to a decline in that society.

I hate people who make it their life's mission to get by on being 'victims'. I hate people who think something is owed to them because of the color of their skin.
