National Insurance Number?

Why are you required to apply for National Insurance Number even your holding a valid UK Settlement visa or a British Passport. What are the benefits of NIN. Please explain in details.
Thanking you so much.

Answer:
You have to have an NI number to get a job. It's a legal requirement/entitlement for everyone over the age of 16 in the UK. You then pay part of your wages in contributions so you can get free healthcare, unemployment or other benefits and in time, a pension. If you do not have an NI number then you are not entitled to any of these. Your choice.
if you havent got one go back to your own country
Without an NI you are not going to get any of the benefits you possibly just came here to get.
You have to get a national insurance no to work otherwise you`ll be working illegally.
You couldn`t claim sick pay, unemployment etc if neccessary and you wouldn`t get a pension

It is purely to do with work and pensions. If say you left school and got married and had a child, you would not need a NI number until you went to work, but your child is still English etc.
Or of course you may be a millionaire and not have to work, so again you do not need an NI number.
Anyone who does paid work or claims state benefit must have an NI number.
you have to have one in order to legally work here, every country i have lived in, has it's equivalent.
there are no benefits, it's simply compulsary.
your not picking cockles now mate if you dont like it go back
if you have this number then it entitles you to bring to this country all your relatives and there relatives, the more they bring the more hand outs you get, the bigger the house the flash car and you dont even have to work or even sign on as some one will do that for you! give yourself a little time to think about this offer, i'd hate for you to make a wrong choice...
national insurance numbers are used to collect payments for the social security fund, most employers wont give you a job without it and you will be unable to claim benefits without it
If you are not that well informed, you should go back to where you came from. The National Insurance payments are what you are required to pay in the event of being sick or unemployed. Your National Insurance number allocates your payments to you. These payments are pooled and so go towards other people who are sick or unemployed. But somehow I feel that you're not too bothered about other people. Only that you hane to have a National Number.
