Providing someone with residency or citizenship?

Ive been together with my boyfriend for 3 years now and want to get married, i was born here in the U.S, so i am a citizen but his parents brought him over to the U.S when he was a child, he graduated from high school, went to college and is a very good person. i want to be able to get him legalized...
How would i go about doing that here in california, Would he have to leave the country?? Is there some way to do something where he doesnt have to??

Answer:
if he entered illegally, even if he marries you he will NOT be allowed to stay. get yourself an immigration attorney. Make sure you get a real attorney and NOT a Notario. Notarios are not attorneys and cannot represent you in immigration court.
Find a reliable immigration attorney and hire him or her. If you lack funds do the research yourself.
