If we give amnesty to the illegal immigrants do we also give amnesty to other illegal groups.Do we give amnesty and release all people in prison.What about illegal paedofiles,murderers,robbers,t... and drug dealers.If we go down the road of amnesty then where do we stop.If an activity is deemed ILLEGAL then it is against the law and should be dealt with as such or we may as well get rid of parliament (the people suposedly making law) and save ourselves a fortune in their salaries.I am always amazed at the THINK TANKS THINKING or lack of thinking.It seems that the lunatics are now running the assylum.

The UK government has failed miserably here, but honestly, when we offer such healthy benefits, how could you stop immigrants, our shore line is rather extensive. How do you police it.

we need immigrants due to old people living longer and less babies being born. but.. I think we really need to get a grip on our asylum/immigration policies and weed out the bad ones. Surely it cant be that hard to sort out.. any doubts... say no!
Also, I dont think everyone should automatically get to bring their families orv they must prove that they dont need recourse to public funds especially child benefit, should prove that they can afford housing and how bout they pay for NHS? even a reduced amount would help, after all they n their families before them havnt paid in.

Send anyone and their relations who havnt already got UK passports back home or back to france, and anyone who has been given a passport and their offspring, take them back and give them 5 yr passports that need to be reviewed. that way we could protect the UK better.

why should they get amnesty? where i live we are flooded out with immigrants mainly form eastern europe.They have taken allot of the jobs on less pay than a british worker,they are pricing the british out of work,ask yourself is it any wonder that they are becoming a problem.

Disagree. Why should they give shortcuts to bad people? What about all the people who came over legitimately, did their 5 years (or more) and paid for visas and etc? Why should they be disadvantaged.

This slippery Labour government - who have some hidden agenda which we have not yet uncovered - are heading towards a General Election in 2008 at the latest and appear to be slipping in the polls.
Since 1997, they have allowed 2,000,000 immigrants to stay in the UK. This was NOT mentioned on any of their Election Manifestos since 1997. They have consistently lied and dissembled about this. Beginning with outright denials and then half-truths followed by outright lies.
'There will only be 15,000 Polish immigrants at most.' This turned out to be at least 400,000 at the time and has climbed since. 'There is no way in which the state can keep tabs on people who enter the UK and then do not leave.' Bulls**t. I went to Canada for a 2-week holiday in 1981 and was told that if I had not left within 90 days, the computer would automatically issue a warrant for my arrest and I would never be allowed to enter Canada for the rest of my life! If they could do that in 1981 then we could do it in the UK in 2007.
'Immigrants contribute greatly to the economy.' More total bulls**t. The vast majority of the legals and many of the illegals HAVE to be on DSS benefits as they could not afford housing, food, etc otherwise. With no qualifications and unable to speak English, they cannot possibly earn enough from working in crap, menial jobs to survive. They are certain to be on the DSS.
What is the only area of government spending which has no budget? Yes - the DSS. The NHS has a budget and so does Education and the Prison Service etc, etc. Have you ever heard of benefits being unpaid because the budget had been spent? No, you have not. There is no budget.
The amount of money spent on DSS payments is mind-boggling. Various Governments have desperately looked round for ways to fund it - ending student grants, selling part of the gold reserves, raising tax on petrol, cigarettes, alcohol, stopping spending on school infrastructures, not raising the ceiling on Stamp Duty as the price of houses has risen 300% in 10 years (this alone raising £3,000 million in the past few years).
The argument is that those on benefits spend the money, therefore making them 'contributors' to the economy. This is a red herring. All of that money is paid for by those who work. Is it any wonder that venture capitalists structure their affairs so that they pay NO tax at all? Can you really blame them?
Now we have imported 2 million more to leach off the workers of this country. The plan is to allow between 300,000 and 900,000 to become 'legal'. These figures are, if previous figures are anything to go by, hopelessly low. It is likely that the actual figure would be suppressed by juggling the figures.
The DSS bill - currently a complete mystery to everyone including the Government, I suspect - will rocket. There will have to come a point where the system will implode, unless taxes are raised well beyond 22% and 40% and / or VAT will be raised to 20% on everything. It will have to happen. People will think that a raise in VAT from 17.5% to 20% is not much, but it will produce more billions of pounds annually to fund the DSS.
I cannot understand - try as I might - what Labour wanted to gain from all this uncontrolled immigration. Not only do we now have all these people draining benefits and NHS, etc., they all needed housing and this has driven up house prices to levels that young people cannot afford. Racial tension is everywhere.
None of the parties have offered a solution. Labour is offering to give us more immigration. The Tories are led by an effete public-school drip offering nothing. The Joke Party (Lib Dem) are silent and utterly useless.
What do we do at the next Election? I have no answer.

The government and councils are letting the immigrants get the houses first. Now that makes all the children who where born and raised in Britain - and are british nationality wait longer for a flat.. one polish man asked if he could have a big house for his family that where coming over, and he didnt look pleased when he got told that he would need to live in Britain for at least a year.
Soon Britain will be the new world... since there is nearly every eastern european country resident in the EU coming across the border and in many middle eastern residents coming over. All the british people will be drove out... then the country, in my opinion would have a crisis.. since most workins british people pay taxes so the foreign immgrants who have been allowed to stay here to live off the governments money... since they'll work small jobs for less than the mininmum wage makes them liable for income help.
immigrants expect the Britain goverment to give them money to live, and always expect us to know their language, but yes many do know SOME english. in my town, every bank and every shop has polish noticeboards.. soon they'll be in many different languages... and the national language would probably change!
i wouldn't be surprised that maybe in 50-60 years the english language would be changed to incorpate all languages that are spoke in Britain!
Don't do it we tried that in the US in 1986 with our illegals, and we ended up with a flood of even more immigrants.

I disagree with Amnesty for illegal immigrants. It is wrong in principle to reward illegal behaviour.An amnesty would solve nothing. How would it prevent further illegal immigration? Perversely, it would be an incentive for further illegal immigration: get in, keep your head down, don’t get caught and eventually you’ll be given legal status if there are enough of you...its wrong...

If this proposal is agreed, then what would happen is that everyone who is an illegal immigrant would put their hands up and accept.
The amount who would put their hands up is far in excess of 0.5 million. The true figure is probably several millions, the government dont know how many there are (how can the government know, they are illegal).
So then we would have a couple of million extra illegal immigrants who then want to claim immigration status for their wives and families and aunts and uncles.
Next thing you know, the government 0.5 million has turned into 4, 5, 6, million.
This country has reached it's sustainable threshold of immigrants long ago.
Enough is enough, stop it all now!
