MEXICO CITY - Powerful drug gangs still control parts of Mexico despite a wide-ranging crackdown involving thousands of federal troops, a top security official said Thursday.

Roberto Campa, executive secretary of Mexico's National Public Security Council, said the military offensive has been successful in regaining a few drug strongholds, but other areas remain under the thumb of traffickers.
"There are places where drug dealers have replaced the local government," he said. He refused to name specific cities or regions.Do you think they are refering to border towns ?
Answer:
I believe that the Mexican government needs to address the problem.
When the problem overflows into the United States, I think that swift and prompt action should be taken to put a complete stop to their insurgence into this country.
Border towns have a large problem with them and many innocents have been shot/killed because of it. The outcry for help from these towns is one that till recently wasn't being listened to.
With what happened to the two border patrol agents recently - I don't see it getting any better though.
It is a serious problem that is why we have to secure the border.

I think that is par for the course in a corrupt country like Mexico. People flee the country because it really is that bad.
Even more reason to legalize, regulate and tax.
Two of the towns are Nuevo Laredo and Tijuana.Tx and Ca. I do not know If they are completely taken over. Up to about 4 years ago I use to walk into Nuevo Laredo. I do not go anymore because of the killings and kidnappings.
