Is America a Country or a Continent ?

Inside the USA is believed to be a country, but for those outside the USA is a Continent.
A continent that you can divide in:
North, Central, West Indies, and South
or...
in Hispanic-America and Anglo-America, and/or French-america
America is from Alaska to Patagonia, and that's it.

Answer:
amercia is a continent
i would say country
The term applies to both.

North America is a continent. South America is a contient.
The term "America" can apply to either or both continents.

The United States of America is a country. But that country often has its name shortened to just "America". Much as the United States of Brazil often has its name shortened to just "Brazil".
The Americas is actually two continents and a bunch of islands
america is a country on the contient of north america
I would say Mexicans are getting old
America is two continents or an abbreviation of a country's name.
Its both, like you said, pleople within the 50states call it the USA, to outsiders its divided into contients (North America is the accual america with the 50 states)
USA is a country!
Most countries consider there to be Americas as two continents (North and South) and America as a country.

What do linquistics matter? Even if it were a continent it wouldn't give citizens of one country on that continent any rights to be in a different country on that continent.
Being Canadian and living in a Country that is also in North America I have to wonder, where you think I live?

I know your weather maps all end where Canada begins, but we're here too, ya know.
USA is a country - The United States of America.

Then there is the 2 seperate continents, North America, also including Canada, and South America, which includes countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador etc.

Hope this helps
the USA is a counrty on the continent of northamerica. as is CANADA.
Well i Europe now-a-days America refers to the US. Other people that live in America (the continent) refer to it as the continent. For example in Spanish speaking coutries the US is Los Estados Unidos. 100 of years ago it refered to the continent as a whole as well.
Continents.
There is no country called America.
It is the United States OF America but many people use America for short. But I agree on what you are saying.
It is a country. North America is a continent which contains : canada, america/usa, and mexico.
It is a country within a continent!
USA= united states of "America" so USA is the country America is the continent, split- North america= Canada, USA, Mexico. then Central and South America which inlcudes those countrys South of North america. look at a map :) Of course people from the USA are known as americans and consider themselves the center of the universe and so call their counrty America
America is a country....North America is a continent
america is 2 continents, north and south.
America (U.S.A. [United States of AMERICA]) is a country but North and South America is a continent.
"America" is the nickname for the country, The United States of America.

America isn't a continent. North America is. South America is too.

"The Americas" refers to both North and South America.

What's refered to as "Central America" is actually the southern portion of North America.

The name comes from an Italian explorer who was doing his thing around the same time that Columbus was. I think his name was Amerigo, but you might want to do some research on that.
country as in 1 whole country. we will not divide this country. that is one of the reasons Lincoln went to war. WE THE UNITED STATES WILL NOT DIVIDE CRAP.
Depends on the context.
America is a continent. the american continent. people from usa are unitedstatians.
There is a "North America" and a "South America" but there is no continent of "America" so that won't work.
America is a continent. There is no country named America, the country is called United States of America. To me this country is the United States, and that's it.
A Continent.

We need to find a word in English for Estadounidenses
America is a continent. From Canada to the Argentinian Patagonia's. The United States took the name of the continent and add it of America. When they said here in America they are wrong because they are United States. Every country in the continent is an American. Mexico real name is Estados Unidos Mexicanos and we don't say welcome to America". For the rest of the world there are only five continents America, Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania and you can see it in the Olympic rings, just five who represent each continent. In United States they teach in the school that there are 7.
America is a continent divided in two sub-continents (North adn South America, I don't know how to call Central America).
Then you have countries in those sub-continents.
Look at a map smart guy...there is no continent on there that is called America. There is North America, there is South America, there is Central America, but there is no continent that is just "America". The term America is short for United States of America, which is a country. Nice try at bashing the U.S, but looks like it failed just as badly as your other attempts.
