What are your thoughts on illegal immigration? What are your thoughts on immigration reform?

Answer:
I'm ok with "legal immigration" although, I think that they should limit it. I know it's already limited, but I think that they should allow only about 100,000 immigrants in every 5 years or so. I don't know about where you live, but here in Alabama, it's getting out of hand. About five months ago, when illegal immigration was a topic Bush was talking about, all the illegal immigrants gathered and had a protest. All the rednecks at my school wanted to take their shotguns up there and "help out" the police. They didn't though. Instead of placing the National guard out there at the Mexican-American border, they should place about three hundred marines heavily armed and plenty of ammo out there. It's getting to become a big national problem also. They recently found out that there was a complete drug line that went from Mexico to a small town called Kilpatrick (dubbed "little Mexico" and "Drug City"by us). It was Meth and Cocaine that was being deliverd. Something needs to happen about this stuff.
I have absolutely NO problem with LEGAL immigration. I *do* think the system could stand to be revamped - it shouldn't take so long for someone to come here legally.
Illegal immigration is just that - illegal. I don't care what country you're from, you should be kicked out permanetly if you come to a country illegally (America or not).

There is a process you have to go through, that people do everyday to come here legally and to get their citizenship. If you want to immigrate to a country you need to follow their laws.
I think illegal immigrant is wrong as it cheats the system and deprives legal immigrants from the opporunity. I think the governement shouldn't increase border security, but should make it easier for potential illegal immigrants to enter the country legally.
The USA doesn't have an illegal immigration problem, we have an illegal employer problem. The prospect of a Republican built wall along the Rio Grand is a source of great shame to me, and any other real American. The solution to the political debate is simple, offer amnesty and citizenship to all who want it, and tax the day lights out of everyone equally at a flat rate. We could pay for Bush's war, and balance the budget in a couple years. Big Business would probably cause a civil war within the United States to prevent the loss of their $$$. The tax system is so lopsidedly in favor of the rich that I want to puke thinking about it, and there is no morality in politics, Liberal or Conservative so no hope of fixing the system

Life isn't fare either, but it goes on.
What is to think about illegal immigration? It's ILLEGAL. That alone should be the first and foremost point when discussion of such comes up.

Before reform is attempted, I would like to see the laws already in place that are not being enforced put into effect as they should already have been before attempting anything else.

When it is time for reform, I would like to see the numbers lowered, the lottery that has been proven to be a major problem done away with, and proof that all those that are coming here for jobs are indeed actually needed and that there are no citizens here that can do the job.

I know of many within the computer field that have been out of work for long periods of time while Congress raised the visas to bring in more workers from other countries - that they just happened to be paying sometimes over $30,000 less a year than the going rate with major cuts to the benefit packages.
illegal immigration=bad. legal immigration=good.

I welcome all LEGAL immigrants with open arms.
The U. S. A., was founded on immogration, but it was legal immigration, they came with a dream, they came with respect, they wanted to learn english, and wanted to be called Americans. On the other hand, is illegal immigration, they come here with, no respect for us nor our laws, they march in our streets, wave the flag of the country they came from, they use fake or stolen IDs and SS cards, to get jobs, and refuse to learn english. Legal immigrants will always be very welcome here, illegal immigrants will never be welcome.
I have moved to Europe, and am carefully obeying the rules here about length of stay and visa requirements. My feeling is, I am a guest in this country, and should obey the letter of the law.

To get a long term visa here, I must request it outside of the country, so I have to (at considerable expense) travel to a neighboring country, stand in a long line at the most exasperatingly incompetent Consulate, pay $150, and then wait 2-4 months just for the visa to be processed, at which time I have to return there to pick up the visa.

Illegal alien Mexicans and others are spitting in the face of our country by flippantly disregarding our laws. How can we consider them for citizenship when the first thing they do is break our most basic right: to have secure borders.

I would require that any illegal who wants to stay here pay a SUBSTANTIAL fine. (I think $2,000 for an individual, and $4,000 for a family is not unreasonable; a lot of these people have used tens of thousands of our tax dollars by having their children attend our schools and use our hospitals).

They can APPLY for citizenship, but with no guarantees, and their application will be at the bottom of the list. Preferential treatment will be given the people who came here legally and have been going through the legal channels.

Henceforth, any employer caught employing an illegal alien will be heavily (very heavily) fined, so that there is no economic incentive to hire them. Without the allure of jobs, we won't have a future problem of millions of illegals coming here.
I think illegal immigration is exactly that illegal!
As for reform I only have a question When is enough enough, I mean can we continue to do this forever? Won't there eventually be too many for us to sustain? Reform can be done as long as amnesty is not. Time table could be changed but we need limits cause hell everyone wants to come here.
I am against illegal immigration, it is a drain on our society. Illegals are handed everything on a silver platter.
Immigration reform is very important in stopping illegal immigration. It should not take years for someone wanting to come to this country legally. Most are hardworkers and want to become AMERICANS. If someone wants to come here for a better life, than they should be able to in a REASONABLE amount of time, not years.
ILLEGAL is the word. If something is illegal it's illegal.
.....Against the law.
..........Punishable by jail time or fine.
...........A misdemeanor or felony.
we don't need illegals they are bring our country down. legals i have no problem with.
legal or illegal i don't care,,,, who are we to say who can come and go in this country, this country wasn't originally ours people are we forgetting the Indians,,,, i don't care either give me thumbs down, anyone and ever one should be allowed to live wherever the hell they want, i am ashamed on what this country is becoming, tellin people who can and cant come here, who do u think u are and what give u the right, Ur ancestors migrated over here, and don't give me that they set the laws, and blah blah blah they set the damn laws to their advantage and then killed off millions of Indians and black people,,, so i don't care about Ur ancestors, that's the only reason u are here now is because someone in Ur family migrated over here,,,ur taken the power in ur hands,,and this country isnt even urs,,, wait awhile and u will see what happens when it comes back ans bites u in the ***,
I think there is nothing bad about it except they should pay taxes like the rest of us. It's not easy to become legal here and believe me its not gonna be easy to make them leave. This country is made up of illegals but i guess some people forgot about it. and it seems like when people talk about illegals there just thinking about hispanics but there are illegals from other ethnicities too!
I am *LEGAL* immigrant from Ethiopia and legal obtained US citizen with large expense and much paperwork. I swear allegiance to America. I work legal and proud to pay income tax and property tax. I AM PROUD TO BE AMERICAN! If you come from country that had dictator ( Derg was before current Meles Zenawi), you would happy to pay money to live American.

I come legal, but many from south come illegal and not pay immigration fees and do papers or income tax and not swear to America.

Is not fair immigrants come illegal and not pay money like many and not spend time with papers for immigration when many us spent years with papers and much money for legal.

Is disrespect to America and disrespect to us who spend money and do immigration legal. No simpathy for illegal cheaters.
I married an immigrant. We are all immigrants in the USA....
I prefer a Total Replacement of All immigration laws,
